Marathon Bars
It was fun and intriguing. A visit to my childhood with the cultural references. The characters were well drawn and the sexism of the time is unpacked with considered care. Great narration, good accents and a satisfying outcome.

Not what I expected
I was looking for a Scottish detective story. Found it very frustrating as it was very slow. The story is set in the 70s and we have come a long way since then from dealing with macho males and stereo typical Scottish ones as that. Not sure I would want to read any more in the series if they are like that.
Nice to hear about the Edinburgh setting and the one plus is that she saw sense in the end when it came to her love life. Young people would not understand how she put up with things as it certainly would not be tolerated in this day and age

Rubbish
Cliche ridden. 5 chapters in and the only details of the crime are that a body has been found. However, female police are downtrodden by caricature ridden male colleagues. Policemen sre drastically overworked and under staffed. The press is represented as a reprehensible man. A Private Detective is predictably o low life man...............

Very boring
Just an excuse to reference food, drinks, cigarette brands and fashion from the period. It became very tedious.

No tension, no drama. The storyline could have been great but the writing is very bland
