Summary

A sinking boat is spotted off the South Coast. Waiting onboard is a grisly discovery.

DCI Boyd, recently relocated from London to Hastings, is now with the East Sussex CID, and his first case is that of a local businessman and his new young wife, missing in the English Channel. All that remains of them is a grim scene aboard their half-submerged yacht and a digital trail of clues that could put Boyd and his daughter, Emma, in danger.

Silent Tide is the first in the DCI Boyd series by award-winning author Alex Scarrow.

Okay book, read well and funny in parts. Might keep going with the series, quite an easy listen and finished in 2 days.

A great listen

A really great listen, brilliantly narrated by Aubrey Parsons. My one criticism was that I but a little disappointed it seemed to end so abruptly - but it won’t stop me trying the next in the series!

such a great listen

I listen to Audible while knitting ( I am a retired person and not able to get out much) Sometimes I get fed up with some books and just stop listening to them - NOT this one. The story gripped me and I loved the narration. ( I have to admit I do look for Aubrey Parsons). I do love a crime book that also makes me smile and laugh at times and this one did., I also liked that I could not work out the finale ahead of time. No spoilers - listen to this one, you wont regret it. It took me two afternoons and I was really looking forward to the second afternoon. Now I cant wait to listen to the second in the series.

I really enjoyed this after reading all the David Hayward dci Grimm books. Similar style. And love Aubrey parson’s narration bringing the characters to life so well

Really enjoyable listen and great story

This was my first book by this author and narrator but it wont be the last. I really enjoyed the characterisations and loved Ozzie, you can tell the author has so much love for his dog - loved it.

Looking forward to seeing the other characters in the team develop and great to find yet another police procedural that I love.

Brilliant start to a series

I've often seen this series recommended by other readers, and was disappointed that it wasn't available on Audible. But now it is!

DCI William Boyd has been on compassionate leave from the Met for the past two years. Now he has moved to Hastings, East Sussex with his daughter and is ready for a new start. He is thrown straight in at the deep end when he is assigned a suspected murder case when a yacht is found floating in the Channel. There is lots of blood but no bodies.

I was hooked right from the prologue. I liked Alex Scarrow's easy to read/listen to writing style. The book is well plotted, fast paced and is peppered with humour. I don't know Hastings, but the author described it well enough that I could envisage the landscape and places. The characters, especially Boyd, his daughter Emma and DC Samantha Okeke are realistically portrayed. Boyd himself is extremely likeable and could easily become one of my favourite fictional cops. He's 46 and slighly overweight and obviously still grieving for his wife and child. But he's dedicated and hard working and isn't afraid to break the rules! We are drip-fed Boyd's back story a little at a time and when I finally found out the truth I'm not ashamed to say I shed a few tears. DC Okeke is perfect as his partner, though we didn't get to know the rest of the team in any detail. But I'm sure that will be remedied in future books. And the icing on the cake is a rescue spaniel called Ozzie :-) There are lots of police procedural series out there but this is definitely one of the better ones and I can't wait for book 2.

The book is read by Aubrey Parsons and his excellent narration added another dimension to a fantastic book.

good start to series

It takes a little while to get used to a new author and his detective team. DCI Boyd and his team promise to be likeable - once I disassociate DCI Boyd's voice with that of Harry Grimm! Different detectives, same narrator! Although Boyd has suffered a massively traumatising family disaster, he seems to be less psychologically scarred than most lead detectives I've read lately. Looking forward to the teams progress.

Good Book

Enjoyed this book. I thought the narrator was going to be a problem bur once he had settled it was fine. The story is good and easy to follow. There is hardly any violence (always a winner for me). whilst not exactly cosy, but getting on that way. I'm off to find some more by the same author. So I must have enjoyed it!

Great new author

enjoyable listen, the new cast seem excellent for the DCI including the wonderful dog. the plot was sound with the twist that leave you guessing.
l found the narrator harsh on my ears, his characters' voices seemed confused at times and did spoil the story for me
