About this listen

A stolen child. A killer stalking the streets of Glasgow. A troubled detective running out of time.

Five years ago, DCI John Lomond led the search for notorious Glasgow child-killer ‘The Sandman', until personal tragedy forced him off the case.

In Lomond's absence, the killer was never found.

Now, with nothing but work left in his life, Lomond remains obsessed with the case–despite the nightmares it brings.

When a child is abducted in similar Sandman fashion from an affluent Glasgow suburb, Lomond is brought in to find them before it's too late.

But the only forensic evidence belongs to a little girl who was abducted and murdered twenty years ago.

Could the Sandman's identity lie buried in the coldest of cold cases? Or is a new killer about to claim their first victim?

The Bonnie Dead is the explosive debut Scottish crime thriller from Andrew Raymond–author of Amazon number one political thriller Official Secrets, which has now sold over 100,000 copies.

Shot through with dark Glaswegian humour and thrilling twists, he captures the voices of his beloved home city, taking you into its hidden depths, and the iconic hills and glens of nearby Loch Lomond and Arran.

If you like writers like JD Kirk, Ian Rankin, and Stuart MacBride, this addictive thriller will have you gripped until its haunting, heart-in-the-mouth climax.

Some hysterical lines

It’s been 3 days since I’ve finished this book and it’s sad to say but I can’t even remember the story line. It was so funny at times with the patter and I did laugh out loud. I had to listen to a few chapters again and again but mostly because my brain doesn’t always take it in. As of writing this I can’t remember the ending, and the truth is, I can’t be bothered re listening to any of it. I didn’t feel it was a waste of a credit but it wasn’t mind blowing either. It was good for me as a Glasgow girl to hear all the local streets etc mentioned, and the storyline was decent. The narrator was great, I don’t often listen to men narrators so a wee change for me.

Gripping!

I was attracted to this as Angus King was the narrator - I am so glad I downloaded it - it was absolutely gripping. I have loved Angus King’s excellent narration of the JD Kirk books, but struggled to find a series to replace them. Andrew Raymond has done a stellar job as author - didn’t see the ending coming, but when it did, it all came together. All ends tied up, nothing botched or hurried - a great ‘read’. The location too of Glasgow, Argyll, Edinburgh and Arran were so accurately described by the author, and accents conveyed perfectly by the narrator, that I felt I was there - I could see them all in my minds eye. Well done Andrew Raymond in combination with Angus King.

Good read

It was good read. I love JD Kirk books and although this isn't it was still a good read. Maybe it's because the narrator of both books is Angus King and he's so good at bringing books and characters to life

Excellent story well narrated

This book was a pleasant surprise, I really enjoyed it from start to finish. The story was well written and kept me interested all the way through to the end and of course faultlessly narrated by Angus King. I've already downloaded the second book in this series!

Great story

Found this novel as I was looking for sone new Scottish crime writer, it certainly hasn’t disappointed. The story was gripping and Angus King’s narration was tremendous. Mind you as I’d just recently listened to Shuggy Bain, also narrated by Angus it took a little readjustment.

Excellent

This is very much in the style of JD Kirk and is an excellent start to what will hopefully become a long series. Angus King is a fabulous narrator. I’m looking forward to the next one already.

Excellent

I have to agree with Bookaholic and Maggie’s review. Many twists and turns - keeps you guessing. And the fact it was Angus King narrating was perfect..….though I did keep expecting him to say Logan rather than Lomond 😊
Just about to start book 2 and I hope Audible can soon offer the next book, the bloody bloody banks ?
