Summary

Twenty years ago seven students became friends at their exclusive private school, Potter's Field. Now they have started dying in the most violent way imaginable. Detective Max Wolfe follows the bloody trail from the backstreets and bright lights of the city, to the darkest corners of the corridors of power. As the bodies pile up, Max finds he is fighting not only for justice, but for his own life....

The gripping first novel in an explosive new crime series by Tony Parsons, bestselling author of Man and Boy. If you like crime-novels by Ian Rankin and Peter James, you will love this.

Standard, but a high standard

Detective with a troubled home life, serial killer on the loose, red herrings a-plenty, sound familiar. Since JK Rowling plunged in, they're all at it. Good fun, great writer, of course, but in a long-tradition of predictability.

Worth it, despite the narration

The story was great, likeable main character, good plot with plenty of twists and turns, but you'll have to put up with the awful Sam Spade narration. I almost gave up after 5 minutes, it's so grating. Stick with it, eventually you'll build up an immunity.

Clever stuff.

I was hooked. Max Wolfe is a great character. At first I thought the plot was going to be a simple revenge killing but in fact it is tortuously complicated and very well planned. I learned a little about boxing and a lot about the police museum. I will read more of this author.
