Summary

A chilling attack. A missing child. And a twisted killer driven to the very brink.

DI Louise Blackwell is still reeling from her brother Paul's murder when she is brought back from enforced leave and tasked with solving a strange new case - the slaughter of wild sheep at Cheddar Gorge, a place shrouded in mystery and folklore.

When a man is brutally attacked with a machete on the clifftop and a young girl disappears, Louise realises that the horror is just beginning. Rumours of a mythical presence near the gorge are spreading fast, and why is a local environmental cult resisting all attempts to solve the case? With the investigation into Paul's death about to be shelved and her bereaved niece to care for, Louise is under pressure - and running out of time. Can she find the girl and catch the kidnapper before her worst fears come true?

Drawn deeper into the dark and shocking truth behind the crimes, she soon finds she isn't the only one with secrets to hide.

Great Series

They could be stand alone. But if possible listen in order. Simple police procedural. But much more than that Has about three strands running through each story. But it easy to follow (I am the world's worst at following plot lines, so it must be simple). None I have read so far are whodunits. The murderer or protagonist is unveiled at the start. They all have puzzles though. The main character is easy to like, but has her problems. the narrator to me is very good. In all worth a credit.

Good story and well narrated,

Enjoyed the storyline and it was well narrated, only complaint I personally have is I thought that the main character s name was used far to often to a point that I was cringing, I wouldn't have been confused in the storyline should her name had been dropped from several places. Will buy the next one as I liked the characters and their personal lives.

Very enjoyable listen

If I had read this myself, I would certainly have called it a page turner. The end of each chapter was cleverly laden with suspense and Matt Brolly is good at revealing just so much of the mystery to keep you intrigued but leaving the final strands unravelled until the end. I have been following Louise Blackwell and her family since the first book in the series and do hope Mr Brolly is working on a fourth. I shall be waiting impatiently for its release. One minor comment about the narrator, who I like but I wish she wouldn't say didernt and wouldernt, instead of swallowing the last syllable of didn't and wouldn't. I just found it a bit irritating. I would have given this book four and a half stars if I had been given the option.

Excellent

This is the third book in the DI Louise Blackwell series, and is just as good as the previous two books. It could be read as a standalone, but as previous cases are mentioned it would be better to read the books in order. This book centres around Cheddar featuring the Gorge and the caves, an area of outstanding natural beauty, and Matt Brolly portrays this brilliantly. The book itself is well written and plotted and kept me interested until the end. The characters are well rounded, and I like Louise and her team.

The narration by Danielle Cohen was great. Looking forward to Book 4 in the series.

Good story- recommended

This was a good continuation of the Louise Blackwell series, with the suspense building nicely throughout. However I found the narration quite irritating- the narrator was trying too hard to enunciate each word really clearly, which resulted in a somewhat stilted delivery. This was a bit distracting at the start, but I got used to it after a while.

*Louise is coming into her own*

This case sees DI Louise Blackwell investigating a curious case of animal killings at Cheddar Gorge. Louise thinks it’s not something the detectives should be dealing with, the manner of the animal killings may mean this is practice for a murderer in the making, then a young girl is kidnapped and soon after a baby is taken……

At the same time the investigation into a huge personal tragedy connected to Louise is going on.

The trouble is, Louise knows she should not interfere in the case. It is also being handled by her ex colleague and nemesis DCI Finch. Will Louise stay out of it and will she catch the kidnapper in time….

Really good

Really good detective series.
DI Louise Blackwell's character is very likable and her character development is very satisfying.
The narration is equally of high standard.

Good story, not well read!

I thought that it was a good plot although the number of characters early on was a tad confusing.
The book was spoiled by the reader, her constant use of “baby talk” pronouncement, was very grating.
Every time a shortened word eg didn’t or shouldn’t was uttered it was didunt or shouldunt, said slowly, as if to an infant.
