About this listen

Meet Amy Winter: Detective Inspector, daughter of a serial killer.

DI Amy Winter is hoping to follow in the footsteps of her highly respected police officer father. But when a letter arrives from the prison cell of Lillian Grimes, one half of a notorious husband-and-wife serial-killer team, it contains a revelation that will tear her life apart.

Responsible for a string of heinous killings decades ago, Lillian is pure evil. A psychopathic murderer. And Amy’s biological mother. Now, she is ready to reveal the location of three of her victims - but only if Amy plays along with her twisted game.

While her fellow detectives frantically search for a young girl taken from her mother’s doorstep, Amy must confront her own dark past. Haunted by blurred memories of a sister who sacrificed herself to save her, Amy faces a race against time to uncover the missing bodies.

But what if, from behind bars, Grimes has been pulling the strings even tighter than Amy thought? And can she overcome her demons to prevent another murder?

Torn

I had almost given up on this due to the narrator. She's one of those "overly English, overly pronounced" narrators. Drove me insane!

However about half way the book took over and I wanted to follow and I'll be honest, I didn't sleep much as it was one of those , just one more hour, books.

Once you get past the infuriating voice the story is worth it. So much so I want to try another in this series.

Worthwhile thriller

Well constructed story with plenty of good twists. The narrator does a good job of the characters too.

A real grower

The story develops and draws you in until your hooked. The psychology dilemma of an adopted police detective, finding out her biological parents are the countries most famous serial killers. The parents seem to be based on the West's so that gives you an idea of the background story of the parents. And the adoptive father being the detective famed for catching her parents.
Amy's mother contacts her from prison with information, Amy had subverted the memory of even being related to her, and she is drawn into her past whilst trying to focus on her current abduction case and career.

Throughly enjoyed it

Format: audiobook
Narrator: Elizabeth Knowelden

As soon as this book started it reminded me of Fred and Rose West, I was concerned it was just going to be a retelling of their story but I’m happy to say it was not.

DI Amy Winter’s world is shaken when she receives a letter from a notorious serial killer, she has no choice but to play the twisted game all the while trying to deal with the revelations revealed about her own life.

A great psychological thriller with some nice twists I didn’t see coming.

I found the narration pleasant and easy to listen to, Elizabeth Knowelden does a good job portraying Amy Winters and the struggles she’s facing.

A good read, not listen.

I enjoyed the story but, whilst I usually like Elizabeth Knowelden narrating, this time her breathy, whisper-like presentation irritated me. From the sample trailers she doesn't continue in this vein so I am looking forward to listening to the rest of the series.
