Summary
A solemn funeral. A bitter schism. A brutal murder.
When the much-loved lord of the manor, Henry Burton, passes away, the villagers of Hambledon-on-Thames gather to pay their respects at his funeral. But the day is marred when the churchwarden is found brutally battered to death in the north transept of the church.
Called to investigate, Detective Inspector Bridget Hart soon unearths a tangled web of old grudges and simmering feuds beneath the tranquil idyll of this sleepy South Oxfordshire village.
Bridget and her team must look beyond the thatched cottages and rose-covered houses to uncover the truth and prevent another death.

It Tolls for Thee
Really enjoyed the balance of personal and professional in this seventh book featuring DI Bridget Hart and colleagues. Esther Wane gave excellent reading, as ever.

More please x
I started reading this series as the first couple of books were part of the free selection. I enjoyed them so continued buying the other books and now I want more. Bridget Hart and her team are a really unique bunch and the story lines are easy and enjoyable to read yet not at all easy to figure out which is a lovely combination. I’m not usually drawn to small village mentality reads but can’t wait to read what happens with Bridget and her team next. Thanks

I’ve somehow got addicted to this series
It started as a harmless flirtation. How bad could it be ? A police procedural that’s warm and comfortable with reliable almost predictable characters. Then suddenly 7 books later and I’ve covered DI Hart’s first year in post and I’m craving another hit of easy on the ear post Morse Oxford policing which I know will probably never come. Don’t start this series or you too will be lost.
