Disappointed
Unbelievable, predictable and very drawn out. Seen to take an eternity to reach any conclusion. Not his best work

Really good story
I do like Michael Wood's stories and I think this is up there as one of my favourites. It has some strong and interesting characters and moves at a good pace. I couldn't stop listening and didn't want it to end! I also liked the cheeky reference to the "prolific serial killer Stuart Mills." Initially I was wary of the serial killer dad element as it's been done before but here I feel it was used in a different way and was, of course, essential to the plot. I have given the narration just 4 stars as despite thinking the narrator did an excellent job, there were quite a few unnecessary and possibly inadvertent, pauses which interfered with the pace of the narrative. But that's just me being very picky! I actually think this narrator would also have been a good match for the Matilda Dark series, as I think Stephanie Beattie's narration, while beautifully done, ages the character a bit. Anyway, back to this story- I can't wait for the next!

Laborious narrator and full story
The pace of the narrator was awful and didn't make any effort to reflect the pace of the story although that was too long and drawn out too: such a shame as normally an author I enjoy

Good story but terrible narrator
Bit graphic but very enjoyable story. The thing that killed it for me was the narrator. Sounded like she was pausing for a cup of tea or a smoke or something. Utterly irrelevant pauses and gaps between narrative and all a bit cringe

Ohhh my .. Michael Wood does it again
Where do you start ? Wow … Not only does he write the fantastic Matilda Darke series , we now have Olivia .. what a remarkable woman .. fantastic .. did wonder about the narration at times as there was a noise in the background and seemed to stop and start but that might be me getting a bad copy of it .. Bring on the next Mr Wood !! 😊

Blooming brilliant book!!!!! Deserves a whopping 5 stars plus…….
Binge listened in 3 days. Couldn’t put it down even when I had to do. It had me gripped right from the start. Highly recommend this title. I did so much housework listening to this because I just wanted to find out a bit more each chapter. The narrators were just as good as the author. Really suited the book. I am keeping this title tucked up in my collections so I can re listen to it some day in the future. Well work 5 stars and a sad it’s come to an end.

Not for the faint thearted
Brilliantly written and narrated but graphically violent and disturbing.
I am not sure into which genre this novel fits but it is shocking in parts. However the building of the tension is skillfully executed by the author and equally well performed by the narrator.
It is a lengthy listen which allows for frequent violent scenarios or reflection upon violence. I had hoped that there would be a reprieve and kept listening as I have enjoyed other novels by this author because of the key characters. Dr Olivia, our heroine, did not save the day for me or the novel.
I suppose that the clue is in the title but listener beware, this is not a cosy police procedural despite the attempt to soften the horror by the introduction of Stan the Sausage Dog.
