About this listen
To repay his debt to Shal, Randidly Ghosthound fought his way through the preliminaries of the Under-25 Regional Tournament in Tellus.
His victories have earned him a spot in Deardun, the seat of power in the Northern Domain. But in this new venue, there are storms brewing on the horizon. Now he’s not just fighting against the unaffiliated warriors, he's one injury or loss away from becoming a Forsaken.
The affluent Styles that rule the Northern Domain have passed the championship between each other over the last five decades, and they aren’t willing to surrender it now.
Yet an even larger shadow looms on the horizon...
Representatives from the autocratic Central Domain have infiltrated the tournament, looking for clues about an old mystery: the true story of the Shal’s father—the original Spear Phantom—and the location of the third gift he received from the Witch of Karma, Lucretia.

Was'nt a massive fan of this "Shaal saga"
I've always found the characters and style quite compelling, the story was great until Ghosthound came to this world. He's just abandoned a really enjoyable story arc during what seemed to me like a build up to a crescendo. He leave Keara, arguably my favourite character due to their interaction, and making this myth of a person seem like a person, bringing out a fun and different side to him. Then she is forgotten about like the rest of the world.
Now we introduce a whole new cast of people Divit is great and Helena bring some of that same persona breaking quality to her, and the same happens, Ghosthound just pisses off and leave, forgets about them.. Bro finish a story, give me some closure.
Wasn't the whole idea at the start that Ghosthound finds his 2 friends? he knows where they are half way through books 2.. This whole Shaal diversion didn't really do anything for the story or the characters and just made me confused.
PS. that part about meaning and life and the meaning pulling form the life but the life is different to the meaning. Why? just why? it took me 3 attempt to understand it, I couldn't so I skipped it and that put a bad taste in my mouth. Glad he's gone back, he never should have left, or this should have been a lot shorter. I could have skipped this whole part and probably would have been better off.

Getting worse.
I loved the first book. Fresh story compared to all the other LitRPG books I’ve listened to (a lot!) and the second book was ok but this book is boring me to death. Unfinished story arcs from the first and second books. It’s just same fight after same fight, very few new locations or exploration which is what was so interesting in the first book. Ok, so I’m only half way through but struggling to keep going. Will probably end it here as I’m so bored with it.

A poor example of the genre.
I’ve persevered with all three because someone told me that the author’s writing improves. It hasn’t happened yet.

Still boring
I made it 20 minutes in! before I was reminded how boring and unlikable the story and the protagonist are, he acts like an angsty introspective tween, constantly! I cannot stand it, oh god and the plot is just so drawn out! continuing on from the stupid spear tournament from the last book, had to refund it waste of a token.
narration is the same not bad but not great, but narration cannot save garbage writing.
