pretty good

Steady magical academy high fantasy story. Not isekai, despite the implications, which isn't a bad thing.

The characters are pretty good. No major plot holes, but there are a few minor continuity errors and narrative shortcuts that could have been easily edited away. They break the immersion a bit, but the story recovers quickly.

Overall it's a lot of school and homework and some amount of danger. If you don't like the setting, you won't like the story. But if a magical academy interests you, there's no reason not to give it a listen.

And can I say that it's good to not hear the words "tank" and "dps" in dungeon settings? Their etymology is so modern and specific that there's no conceivable way any setting other than our own could recreate them. Good job, author.

There's a section near the beginning where the Special Chosen One trope rears its head, but thankfully the plot doesn't lean heavily on it. The main character still has to sweat and bleed for sometimes mediocre results, but excitement takes many forms and the road to excellence is longer than one audiobook. Wherever this is going with the politics and the quest for power/greatness, it's not a sprint.

Wonderful Start

This was quite an interesting series start as the main character moves up the class divide into the adventurers academy. Bringing the class politics and hidden dangers into it makes for interesting listening, and although some of the plot is a bit obvious, I found it very enjoyable. The narration is, of course, top notch and works well. Although this is a new author, I shall follow the rest of the series and may even check out more titles.
I requested this audio and have decided to leave my thoughts for everyone.

Minimal Litrpg elements

No long stat lists.
Very enjoyable listen all and all. Really liked that the mc is not a know it all. I will be buying the next book 👍
