About this listen
An old family, dark secrets, and a murdered woman.
A body is found floating in the local beauty spot known as Silent Pool. When DCI Jon Pilgrim and his team are brought in, they soon discover foul play. She was murdered.
The woman belonged to a local aristocratic family that was gathering at the family’s estate. Jon investigates with his partner, Kate, and soon discovers secrets and rivalries. The victim was the family's black sheep. No one liked her; they all have a motive.
But as Jon works the case, his new boss takes issue with him and the team, causing problems as the case develops.
Jon must sift through the clues and deal with this haunted family as he searches for the truth and the killer in their midst.
Secrets of the Dead is a new who-done-it thriller from author A L Fraine. Perfect for fans of JD Kirk, JM Dalgliesh, Alex Smith, David Gatward, and Ian Rankin.

An enjoyable who-dunnit
Having enjoyed the first two books in the series I was looking forward to this and was not disappointed. The lead characters, Kate & John, are very likeable and the banter between them as well as other members of their team is humourous and works well. It certainly fits my kind of humour and sarcasm.
Within the first few chapters I realised this was more of a who-dunnit than a thriller and indeed there are several references to Agatha Christie, Poirot and similar thrown in, confirming that thought. Not my favourite type of mystery but this was done really well and although I guessed the killer's identity fairly early on it didn't detract from my enjoyment.
As a man from Derbyshire but just on the Nottinghamshire border many of John's North/South niggles & comparisons ring true and can't help but raise a smile.
The narrator, Duncan Galloway, gives an excellent performance with multiple accents all fitting the characters perfectly.
I've already started on the next book, Behind The Walls

Another great listen
So this was completely different from the other books in the series but loved it as well. Love the banter that is going on. It is such a great listen and I really enjoyed it. Narration superb as always.
I just love the Pilgrim series.
I was given a free copy by the narrator but this in no way influenced my review. I am just so pleased found both the author and narrator.
