Summary
International bestseller Jeffrey Archer returns
A THRILLER FROM THE MASTER STORYTELLER
London, 1988. Royal fever sweeps the nation as Britain falls in love with the ‘people’s princess’.
Which means for Scotland Yard, the focus is on the elite Royalty Protection Command, and its commanding officer. Entrusted with protecting the most famous family on earth, they quite simply have to be the best. A weak link could spell disaster.
Detective Chief Inspector William Warwick and his Scotland Yard squad are sent in to investigate the team. Maverick ex-undercover operative Ross Hogan is charged with a very sensitive – and unique – responsibility. But it soon becomes clear the problems in Royalty Protection are just the beginning. A renegade organization has the security of the country – and the Crown – in its sights. The only question is which target is next in line…
Critic reviews
‘Only someone like Jeffrey Archer . . . could have written a compelling story like this. Every page bristles with suspense and the ending comes at you with the force of a tank round’ DAVID BALDACCI

*Intrigue & Suspense*
**4.5 Stars**
This instalment sees DCI William Warwick and his team investigating the current team involved in Royalty Protection Command. What he finds means that he then has to step in as Temporary Superintendent
His 2nd in command Di Ross Hogan is charged with looking after none other than Princess Diana Aka ‘The People’s Princess’. Ross is not like any Di he is ex military.
After an intense training course into etiquette etc Ross is ready to take charge. Although he has a roving eye on her lady in waiting it is a no, no.
Princess Diana has a soft spot for a so called playboy who Ross gets the measure of and cannot hide his distaste for him, he vocalises his concerns and nothing is done as a suspicion is not evidence. When Ross’s fears are realised not even he could have predicted the scale of what is taking place, will he be powerless to do anything?…
Now, with National Security at threat, William and the government need to come up with a plan. This plan will involve many players with only a fraction of time to put all the pieces together

Possibly the most middle class crime thrillers available
Jeffrey Archer always reliable to spin a good story.
If you thought the William Warwick series couldn’t get any more middle class; listen to this one as we now factor in Princess Diana choosing handbags

Never judge a book by ‘the name’ on the cover.
I thought I really wouldn’t not gel with Jeffrey Archer. I’ve no reason for that idea but there you go, I was wrong. Really well thought out plot and obviously thorough research into the detail.

Changed narrator!
Very good story, as usual. Recap went on for about 5 Chapters, which was slightly annoying, having loved all the previous DI Warwick adventures. The narrator has definitely changed, Sir Julian and Christina were totally different which rather spoiled it for me however nothing to stop me enjoying another great yarn from Jeffrey Archer.
