About this listen
The first book in a brand-new thriller series by the Queen of Crime Drama, Lynda La Plante. A burnt-out cottage, a fortune buried in the ashes - and a body that could solve a decades-old crime....
Jack Warr is a young DC with the Metropolitan Police. Charming but aimless, Jack can't seem to find his place in the world - until he's drawn into an investigation that turns his life upside down.
In the aftermath of a fire at a derelict cottage, a badly charred body is discovered, along with the burnt remnants of millions of stolen, untraceable bank notes - the hidden legacy of Dolly Rawlins and her gang of Widows.
Jack's assignment to the case coincides with an investigation into his own past. As he searches for the truth about his identity, Jack finds himself increasingly drawn into a murky underworld of corruption and crime. Those millions have not been forgotten - and Jack will stop at nothing to find the truth.
An exciting and action packed new thriller, with roots in La Plante's best-selling novels, Widows, Widows' Revenge and She's Out.

Poor Continuity
I enjoyed the story but was disappointed at the lack of continuity between Widows Revenge and this book. There is a major plot divergence in how Dolly got the jewels. I was disappointed that Dolly was killed off. As I was disappointed that the Widow’s revenge before it was revenge on the widows. There is also an issue with the story line, surly a criminal record wouldn’t preclude someone from setting up a children’s home.

Enjoyed this
Stick with the narrator... I began to find his delivery style quite appropriate and contrasted nicely with the other accents both male and female that he conjured rather convincingly IMO
I'm moving onto the next installment

Very enjoyable
Really good narrator which was good because there were a lot of characters and the usual twist and turns I wasenjoyed listening to the story. It's a middle ground Lynda Ia Plante book .l listened to it over a longer period of time because l was not quite as compelled to find out what came next. Some books are like that ...not a criticism of the book, which was enjoyable.
