About this listen
‘Wistful, touching and funny’ Mail on Sunday
‘Hilarious and tear-jerking in turns’ Express
‘A sharp, witty and wise book straight from the heart’ Daily Mail
Harry Silver has it all. A successful job in TV, a gorgeous wife, a lovely child. But in one moment of madness, he chucks it all away.
A modern classic, Man and Boy is a hilarious and touching novel about how Harry comes to terms with his life, brings up his son alone and, gradually, learns what words like love and family really mean.
©2019 Tony Parsons (P)2019 HarperCollins Publishers LimitedCritic reviews
‘Wistful, touching and funny, it looks back at the glory days of the family without losing hope for the future. In the end, it is a deeply touching book: a love letter to a son from his father, and to a father from his son’
Mail on Sunday
‘One of the finest books published this year… Hilarious and tear-jerking in turns’
Express
‘Parsons has written a sharp, witty and wise book straight from his heart. His characters are all nitty-gritty, bounce-off-the-page, real people; his dialogue is brilliant’
Daily Mail
‘A touching novel… full of quiet tenderness, and written from the heart’
Independent
‘A finely constructed novel that says more about human relationships than a library of psychology manuals, hitting the funny bone and the emotional jugular at one and the same time’ Irish Times
‘A grown-up novel that is simultaneously a heart-rending gripping read and suffused with an irresistible reality’ Glasgow Herald

Fantastic!
Thoroughly enjoyed this story of life and death. So many of my own feelings following the death of a loved one, it made me cry and smile.
Well done Tony and thank you.

Heartwarming
Loved it. I fancied a change from the usual murder mystery or fantasy I normally read. It was a lovely story, well read, really enjoyed listening.

Great story but poor editing
The Tony Parson Max Wolfe books are amongst my favourites so I was quite excited to hear about a new audible book from the author of a different genre. I wasn’t disappointed! A totally different style to the gritty crime thrillers but a really good, thought provoking tale that kept me gripped.
My only complaint (and this is becoming a regular theme) is with the editing. The narration was fantastic but spoilt by inappropriate gaps between passages, e.g. long pauses between what were clearly sentences within the same paragraph, coupled with short or virtually non-existent gaps between separate chapters. This ruined the flow of the narration and threw me out of sync with the story. Recording must take hours and hours, surely piecing it together is the easy bit? Do the recordings not get quality checked? I just don’t understand why this happens in so many audiobooks - I’ve never seen a printed book with incorrectly formatted text!

Tugging at the Heart Strings
Thank you Mr. Parsons
You have really captured the thoughts and feelings that have passed through me over the years.
The power and feeling of love, the inevitability of life and the frailty and men (and woman) not realising what they have.
Great narration
