Summary

Three BBC Radio 4 full-cast dramatisations starring John Shrapnel as Morse and Robert Glenister as Lewis, plus a bonus reading by Colin Dexter of one of his short stories.

In Last Seen Wearing, Inspector Morse is reluctant to take over an old missing person case from a dead colleague. But two years, three months and two days after teenager Valerie Taylor's disappearance, somebody decides to supply some surprising new evidence....

In The Silent World of Nicholas Quinn, Inspector Morse tackles the murder of an exam invigilator. The newly appointed member of the Oxford foreign exam syndicate was deaf, and he wasn't from the insular world of the Oxford colleges. Now he is dead.

After he's rushed into hospital, Inspector Morse becomes intrigued by an old crime in The Wench Is Dead. Could the wrong men have been hanged for the murder of Joanna Franks?

Plus Colin Dexter reads his own short story, 'The Double Crossing', in which it is a good first day for a certain detective named Lewis.

Gripping, suspenseful and entertaining, these BBC dramatisations were adapted by Guy Meredith from the original Inspector Morse novels by Colin Dexter.

Thoroughly recommended

Really enjoyed this BBC dramatisation. Really well acted and really good collection of stories. Wish there were more Morse dramatisations like this!

Thoroughly enjoyable

I thoroughly enjoyed the three Morse stories, with fond memories of the TV series starring John Thaw which came out in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s I think

Good

Good. The only let-down was the intro music, which was truly madly deeply awful

brilliant adaptation

A must for all Morse fans and anyone who enjoys a good crime thriller. Not quite John Thaw level, but close enough.

Great dramatisation of Morse

Great plots as expected from Colin Dexter and beautifully delivered by the actors concerned. The last play 'The Wench is dead!' was particularly engaging. Will listen again!

Enjoyable

Whilst not the TV Morse, still highly entertaining and easy to visualise. Very good indeed.

Surprisingly brilliant

What did you like most about Inspector Morse: BBC Radio Drama Collection?

Having enjoyed the TV dramatizations of Morse I was not sure if I would like different actors playing well known characters but in fact they were all absolutely excellent and completely won me over.

What did you like best about this story?

All the stories were really exciting.

What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

The actors really brought the stories to life and the music was really good and atmospheric.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

yes, definitely

Any additional comments?

I really enjoyed these stories and would love to hear more with the same actors.
Do try it!
