Summary
The new original novel set in the untapped years following Gears of War 3, revealing for the first time what occurred in the aftermath of the Locust War, written by New York Times best-selling author Michael A. Stackpole.
The Locust War has ended with an energy weapon that pulsed across the land, destroying Locust and Lambent alike. The world is in shambles, and the few survivors are isolated from one another. Humanity must begin anew. This novel reveals the canonical, never-before-seen events set in the time immediately following the game Gears of War 3.
With most of Sera’s civilization destroyed, Sergeant Marcus Fenix and Lieutenant Anya Stroud must somehow rebuild on the ruins. For Marcus, his purpose is impossible to grasp. With no clear enemy to fight, there may be no place left for him in this postwar world. Some call him hero; others view him with resentment.
As Anya struggles to create alliances to re-form the Coalition of Ordered Governments, she quickly discovers how impossible it is to tell friend from foe. Then whispers of Locust still stalking the land begin to spread. Fearing the worst, Marcus forms a team to assess the potential threat. As he and the other Gears search for Locust survivors, however, they quickly discover that the new enemy may be all-too-human, and utterly ruthless.

Never Enough Gears Lore
Only just getting into the extended universe of Gears after being a fan since GOW1 released, and this was such a nice fill for the gap between Gears 3 and 4. Great hearing old characters come back and narration was brilliant. Highly recommend.

Captivating!
I’m a massive fan of the gears of war franchise and have been dying to know what happened after the events of Gears of war 3 and how the humans of sera rebuilt, as well as finding out what happened to Anya.
This book was informational, emotive and so captivating. Nan McNamara’s performance as well really sells the events of the book too and when the book is read by an actual VA who voices one of the main characters, it’s just great.
5* from me, excellent writing!

Set just after Gears 3
I was looking forward to a continuation of the Gears story but instead this takes us back to just after Gears 3.
The first half of the story is slow and to me irrelevant but the second half is good.
hopefully the next won't have so much irrelevant back story.

another brilliant gears entry
a brilliant look at life after the war and seeing the struggles of recreating a world to live in, all the troubles, turmoils and twists it brings with it,
some returning faces and new ones makes this a great story for any gears fan,

Excellent as usual
Great filler to show events after Gears 3. Still plenty of room to bring us up to Gears 4.

Amazing
Being a fan of both the games and book's i alwas wondered what happened between the years of gears 3 and 4, this story was thrilling and kept me entertained though i do hope there will be another book that expands upon the 25 year gap. But other than that it was a fantastic story

meh
Very poor story following the end of Gears of war three, would have expected it to have been set in two time periods like the other books, or even a rough approximation of what happened in the 25 years between the third and fourth game. expected much more from this book although enjoyable it let itself down. The reader was great as usual!
