About this listen

It was the end of World War II. FDR's New Deal had redefined American politics. Taxes were at an all-time high. The bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki had created a fear of total annihilation. The rise of secret government agencies and sanctions on business had many watching their backs. America's sense of freedom was diminishing... and many were desperate to take that freedom back.

Among them was a great dreamer, an immigrant who'd pulled himself from the depths of poverty to become one of the wealthiest and most admired men in the world. That man was Andrew Ryan, and he believed that great men and women deserved better. So he set out to create the impossible: a utopia free from government, from censorship, and from moral restrictions on science, where what you gave was what you got. He created Rapture - the shining city below the sea. But this utopia suffered a great tragedy. This is the story of how it all came to be... and how it all ended.

Great listen, especially if you played the game.

Whether or not you played the game this is a great listen. If you did play the game even better, took me back to that unforgettable story/setting.

A man chooses

Absolutely brilliant.
Completely fleshes out the game and leaves any questions you may of had answered. Yes the narrator struggles with all the accents required.
But over all I feel it didn’t make it difficult to listen to. Really loved it, would recommend it to people who haven’t even played the game, as well.

Decently written.

Great version of the game story and written well. A refreshing change from the badly composed pulp novels narrated on Audible. No points for guessing the narrator had no clue of accents beyond generic USA speak.

Great for someone who played the games and got invested in the story

After listening it makes me what to replay all the games, the extra context of the building of rapture and its down fall are excellent compliments to the story.

Welcome to Rapture

I have tried to experience this universe by playing bioshock 1 and could never get into the game. I liked the atmosphere and wanted to know the lore and backstory of the undersea city of rapture before its fall. I wasn't disappointed. This book isn't from the same people who created the game but don't let that put you off. it's a complete guide to who's who and why they done this and that from the bioshock universe concerning the city of rapture and my mind was taken to that under water world as it clearly captivated my imagination
