Summary

Three muffled thuds ring from the partially filled grave of the newly wed girl.

Only the verger hears them, and he dismisses the noise as his imagination. But over the next few days, others also hear faint sounds.

An exhumation order is granted. Reporter Kate Hemingway sneaks into the small suburban churchyard when the coffin is opened, and the scene she witnesses is so horrific she can never forget it. As she starts work on the story, Kate finds herself caught up in a sinister and macabre cover-up.

At the centre is a respected anaesthetist, who has a secret obsession. He believes people can exist outside their bodies and that if he can prove it, he will provide the answer to the question that has haunted mankind through the ages: is there life after death?

Nothing - and no one - is going to stand in the way of his driving ambition....

Excellent read

Loved this, my first Peter James book. Listened almost uninterrupted, was a very compelling listen. Excellent narration too.

Brilliant book

As expected from Peter James, another brilliant book with a gripping story and great characters. Loved it.
The male narrator was a little distracting, very singsong in his intonation, but I got over that as the story was so good!

Twilight by Peter James

A fascinating story about life after death, very well researched in respect of the medical detail, making it a gripping story

Not as good as I'd hoped

enjoyable story line but found the male narrators voice rather annoying after a while. almost clipped with a rhythm!

Thoroughly enjoyed it

A fantastical and improbable story but nevertheless a highly enjoyable page turner. Peter James creates great stories and tells them very well. He has a knack of creating lead characters that one can engage with and this drives a sense of involvement with the plot. I found the female narrator very good indeed. The male narrator’s rather fast and breathy style was somewhat off putting although unlike other listeners it did not significantly spoil my enjoyment. I thoroughly enjoyed this one and found it hard to put down. The ideal companion on several long car journeys!

Another great Peter James classic

Well narrated and gripping enough to keep me engaged throughout. He’s always good. This one was no different. Anyone ck planning about the narration didn’t listen for more than a little while maybe as there are a few narrators but to me the Narration was excellent

Twilight

not up to the standard of his Roy Grace books
All that unbelievable out of body experiences and the stupidity of Kate going off in to a place where there were no other people around with a man she suspected of nefarious deeds. Would anybody drink the coffee he could easily have slipped a drug into

Slow start but worth persevering

I’ve been waiting for this book to be released on audible for ages and was a bit worried as I really struggled to get into it for several chapters. As soon as the stories begin to align it gets going and I’m so glad I persevered. I really enjoyed it thank you.

Macabre but Brilliant!

Peter James never disappoints, a riveting story! I particularly liked Peter Kenny's narrating, his quirky lilt and tone at the end of his sentences added something special to the main character!

More like a Horror story

Worst book I’ve listened to. Too many untied ends! Can’t believe Peter James was the author
