Summary

Shortlisted for the Audiobook of the Year Award at the British Book Awards

Private Detective Cormoran Strike is visiting his family in Cornwall when he is approached by a woman asking for help finding her mother, Margot Bamborough - who went missing in mysterious circumstances in 1974. Strike has never tackled a cold case before, let alone one 40 years old. But despite the slim chance of success, he is intrigued and takes it on; adding to the long list of cases that he and his partner in the agency, Robin Ellacott, are currently working on.

Robin herself is juggling a messy divorce and unwanted male attention, as well as battling her own feelings about Strike. As Strike and Robin investigate Margot's disappearance, they come up against a fiendishly complex case with leads that include tarot cards, a psychopathic serial killer and witnesses who cannot all be trusted. And they learn that even cases decades old can prove to be deadly....

A breathtaking, labyrinthine epic, Troubled Blood is the fifth Strike and Robin novel and the most gripping and satisfying yet.

Outstanding

I was bowled over by how very good this book is. I am not much of a reader of detective fiction so have little idea of the standard etc., but I was stunned just how well written this was, the characters - dialogue and plot and puzzle were just first rate. The story has actual real depth.

Superb

Perfectly narrated as always and the most satisfying mystery of the strike series as yet.

this is such a good book and no fault at CHAPTER 6, it shuts the way it ends. Keep on listening, you will be amazed!

My favourite Strike and Robin book

I absolutely loved this book and didn’t want it to end. My audio didn’t cut out so all!! I did receive an email to cancel and re-load, maybe that solved any issues!

I liked the back drop with Strike and Robins’ blossoming relationship, told from both sides.

Really enjoyable story with a twist I didn’t see coming at the end.

Robert Glenisters’ narration is OUTSTANDING.

Can’t wait for the next instalment ♥️

Couldn’t stop listening.

I’ve been a fan of the Strike series since it started. But this book is the best yet. The writing sucks you in, with twists and turns to keep you on your toes. The narration, as always for the Strike series, is excellent. The characters have depth and, although not always loveable, are intriguing and believable. Highly recommend.
The only downside...I’ve finished it. How long until the next Strike instalment??!!

Loved it

After hearing some negative reviews from literary critics I thought I might be disappointed this time. No. Loved every minute and bitterly regretted it ever coming to an end.

Good but too long ...

Really slow to start, seemed like the main characters development which had been a feature of the earlier books was taking a break whilst the convoluted plot was being setup. Eventually it gets into its stride but you do need to stick with it.
A slight change in this book was the plot device of Robin/Strike making daft decisions to facilitate not very worthwhile mini stories ... I think this is maybe what made the whole thing a bit too long, its ok but preferred the earlier ones.

Robert Glenister was excellent as always.

Brilliant!

Robert Glenister is by far the best narrator - he gives each of the characters a voice and does it brilliantly well, even with the female characters. It's a long haul with this book, really in depth with all the investigating, you really feel you're taking every step with Strike and Robin and working with them to solve the case.

Epigraph

Could have lived without the addition of the Epigraph being read out at the start of each chapter. Was initially irritating towards the end of book I found myself leaping towards my phone to press forward 30 seconds.
