About this listen

Lojong is the Tibetan Buddhist practice that involves working with short phrases (called "slogans") as a way of generating bodhichitta, the heart and mind of enlightened compassion. Though the practice is more than a millennium old, it has become popular in the West in only the last 20 years or so - and it has become very popular indeed because it's a practice that one can fit very well into an ordinary life, and because it works.

Through the influence of Pema Chödrön, who was one of the first American Buddhist teachers to teach it extensively, the practice has moved out of its Buddhist context to affect the lives of non-Buddhists, too. It's in this spirit that Norman Fischer offers his commentary on the lojong slogans. He applies Zen wisdom to them, showing how well they fit in that related tradition, but he also sets the slogans in the context of resonant practices throughout the spiritual traditions. He shows lojong to be a wonderful method for everyone, including those who aren't otherwise interested in Buddhism, who don't have the time or inclination to meditate, or who'd just like to morph into the kind of person who's focused rather than scattered, generous rather than stingy, and kind rather than thoughtless.

A gift! Clear, easy to understand, inspiring and r

What a beautiful guide to the slogans of Longen. A commentary that is insightful and born of living this work in our mad modern world. Norman Fischer reads his work beautifully and feels like a mentor and friend as well. Very highly recommended for anyone curious about the teachings, the nature of compassion or simply wishing to live a more compassionate and conscious life.

Refreshingly different

Excellent book about the slogans from a zen perspective. It's really nice to listen to a non judgemental exposition of the slogans and how these fit in to normal, day to day life.

Norman Fisher is an experienced speaker and an experienced practitioner and yet his teachings can be followed by anyone with a mind to do so.

Highly recommended book for beginner and experienced alike. I have lost count of how many times I have listened to this audi book.

Very good value for money and very well read.

Wonderful

what a great book and narrated by the author. Instead of sounding like an audio book, it sounds like a loving wise father speaking to you of his wisdom and sharing with you centuries of wise teachings. This is excellent for anyone on their spiritual or personal development path. I have got so much from it.

Pedantic

Overall quite good but...too wordy. And it reads rather contrived as opposed to being rooted in everyday life.

Tedious presentation

I have never encountered these teachings presented. in such a tedious and un-inspiring way. I wish I could return this audiobook
