About this listen
Whether we call it the inner critic, superego, or just plain nag, most of us have a "judge within" who's constantly on our case. A comprehensive guide to understanding how the inner critic works, this book offers practical, positive suggestions for breaking free of it. Using straightforward language and examples from everyday life, Byron Brown shows: Where the inner judge came from. How it operates. Why it trips us up. Why we believe we need it. How to develop awareness of it. How to disengage from it. The "soul qualities" we can develop to weaken its influence. Each chapter begins with an episode of the "Frank and Sue story", dramatically illustrating how the inner critic works; each chapter ends with a simple exercise designed to help the listener move along the path of self-discovery.

So helpful for CPTSD survivors
The whole thing resonated with me; what feels crushed or destroyed by a harsh inner judge from an abusive childhood is addressed in a clear and comprehensive and helpful practical manner.

great content, grating reader
excellent content. The reade however, when taking on Sue's voice, was SO grating every time. I could barely get through.

False self "ego" Connect with true Self
I loved it. Its not easy to accept old hurt or false beliefs and strategies of the Ego. But you get step by step plan to regain true power by knowing when your ego is on controle and how to take the controle back with Will power.

A vital tool in my journey
I found the first chapters a bit hard going, possibly as an audiobook it’s just a case of interacting with the content in a different way, and not being able to look away from the words and reflect so easily.
However I’ve found the bulk of the book enlightening, helpful and life-changing. I now have the confidence to see things differently and the tools to make real change. A vital tool in my journey.

Super book
Amazing book for those dedicated to personal evolution.
I liked how it broke down the process of what is essentially a form of shadow integration, into steps that gradually built on one another.
The exercises in each chapter are very effective and easily accessible.

sleepy and slow
the narration of this book was so mono and slow I had to turn it off ,it was similar to being in a conversation with someone who is so boring you can't remember what they said.its a shame as the book could be really good but I'll never find out now.
