Summary
Jack Ryan, Jr. is on a path that leads to international destruction.
The quiet of a Texas night is shattered by the sounds of screeching brakes, crumpling metal and, most shockingly, rapid gunfire. The auto accident Jack Ryan, Jr. thought he witnessed turned out to be a professional hit. Jack may be too late to save the victim, but he'll be damned if he's going to let the hitters escape justice.
He's got just one lead - a meeting the victim was going to. When Jack shows up instead, he's drawn into the seedy underbelly of a small Texas town and the cold case of a college student who vanished from its streets.
Jack is left with nothing but questions. Who wants it to look like the victim was drunk? Why does someone want an innocent witness killed? And most of all, what's a team of South African hitmen doing in the Lone Star State?
His quest for answers will take Jack from a quiet Texas road to the middle of an international conspiracy - and may just cost him his life.

Good as always
The book is certainly great. The further you go into the series the more repetition of the story structure you will see. But so far - acceptable. When's the next one and why do you need to wait so long?

Way too much padding
It was a very good plot, but the author took a short story and padded the hell out of it. Time and time again, there were long descriptions of the history of each character and how they were feeling about the situation they were in. Whilst that is really helpful when setting the scene and making a connection with the characters, when you are using it to continually fill space, it becomes a real drag and spoils the flow.
The narrator has his own style and can sometimes lay it on a bit thick, but he's been doing it so long now, I really wouldn't want it to be anyone else.

Not Tom Clancy
An interesting story but it fails completely to capture Clancy"s style and I write as a long term friend. On almost every page there is a ground out with one leap he was free and these formulaic blinding glimpses of the obvious become more and more predictable and tedious. Tom will be turning in his grave

Another epic journey !
I loved this epic journey getting to know more of Chad and Kerry. I listened for two whole days ignoring everything else. This story keeps you on the edge of your seat. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Not the most exciting JR story!
I have loved listening to the Jack Ryan series and I look forward to more. However, this book was somewhat padded out with backstories, recaps and past references. Whilst I appreciate that some listeners need some context, it was at times overly repetitive.

slow start, great ending
the start focusing on Jack and Lisanne only, and for so long, took some effort to get through. the campus series of books is so we'll received because of the team dynamics and strong roster of characters. so to start and go on for so long with just two was a bit painful. Once we got into the meat of the book however, it really hit its strip and became a classic Jack Ryan Jr novel.
