Summary
"What a pretty flower to keep locked in a big, rocky tower."
Nineteen years ago, I was plucked from the heart of a bloody massacre that spared nobody else.
Small. Fragile. An enigma.
Now ward to a powerful High Master who knows too much and says too little, I lead a simple life, never straying from the confines of an imaginary line I've drawn around the castle grounds.
Stay within. Never leave.
Out there, the monsters lurk. Inside, I'm safe...though at a cost far greater than the blood I drip into a goblet daily. Toxic, unreciprocated love for a man who's utterly unavailable.
My savior. My protector.
My almost executioner.
I can't help but be enamored with the arcane man who holds the power to pull my roots from the ground. When voracious beasts spill across the land and threaten to fray the fabric of my tailored existence, the petals of reality will peel back to reveal an ugly truth. But in a castle puddled with secrets, none are greater than the one I've kept from myself.
No tower is tall enough to protect me from the horror that tore my life to shreds.
To Bleed a Crystal Bloom is a dark Rapunzel reimagining full of immersive imagery and breathtaking angst.

One of the best books out there
Sarah really knows how to capture feelings and thoughts and describing them to us readers in a uniq way I’ve never experienced before. I read When the moon hatched, before I started this series and knew I would not be disappointed.
This is an incredible well written book and story that touches your soul. If you’re looking for hero/villian to love with a hearttrobbing romance, this is not the book. BUT!!! Mind that this is the first book in a series, the plot is building and twisting and gives you hints and questions that neeeeds to be answered. This is a uniq fanatsy world with lots of mystery and potential. I’m going to start listening to book 2 right now!!
Again, Sarah, I don’t have the words to describe the awe I am in right now. You are an amazing author, one of the best in the world, I love your work!!

MESSY - but excellent narration
There are a few things you may have to overcome to make it through this book. I made it. Was it worth it? I’m not sure. The first half of the book is very unfocused. However, I was cleaning while I listened to this so made it to the end, which does pick up quite a bit and has suckered me into Book two. More details: The first trope to get over is AGE DIFFERENCE: there is a very weird and sexually charged relationship between the protagonist and her guardian, who has cared for her since she was TWO YEARS OLD. (She’s now 21 so at the LEAST he’s in his 40s). The author seems to be attempting to take the curse of this by claiming he hasn’t really been around, but still. Ick factor. The second trope to overcome is LACK OF COMMUNICATION: these two will talk about jealousy/lust/each other’s smell, usually while pressing each other against walls, but not much else. The third obstacle is that the first half of the book feels purposeless, there’s no mission, no drive, just people doing…stuff. There’s clearly a rich history to WHY these two have been thrown together, but good luck finding out anything about that in this book. There are bits and pieces of other POVs that go nowhere. Characters introduced who have no impact. It’s all very WHAT’S YOUR POINT? Honestly, I thought I’d be returning it, but then it kind of saves itself in the last third. The narration is very good.

An Excellent Male Narrator!👏⭐️
To Bleed a Crystal Bloom: A Crystal Bloom, Book 1
By: Sarah A. Parker
🎧 Narrated by: Chelsea Stephens and Troy Duran
Length: 12 hrs and 47 mins
The male narrator did an especially good job with his character voices throughout this audiobook. The female was good, too, he was just better.👏
I enjoyed this story. I do feel like I'm playing catch up as hardly any of the world has been explained, which is awkward.🤔 But the characters and situations are enough, so far, to keep me reading!

Weird romance
This entire book is about a girl lusting after her father figure. I felt uncomfortable almost the entire book, but I don't have the strength to dnf. I will read in the hopes that the other potential love interest rebuilds my trust in the author. The overarching plot seems interesting, but it gets distracted by the romance. Crossing my fingers book 2 gets better.

the beginnings of a great unique series.
I was very sceptical about this book due to other reviews. I expected a morally grey romantacy brimming with all those red flags we can't help but love in fiction and well, yea, that's exactly what it was but, with so so much more. This first book leaves us with so many unanswered questions and I get the feeling that like the FMC we are completely in the dark as to what is really going on. there are little snippets and red herrings all over the place and I honestly have no clue where it's all going. my only real criticism is that I don't feel particularly connected to the main characters. the mmc is a total enigma and the FMC is underdeveloped and confused but I understand this is on purpose if a little frustrating. (now writing after finishing book 2 I can confirm that there is significantly more character development in the next book)

awkward narrator
I really enjoyed the story but the narrator was like listening to Alexa. Very robotic & honestly quite annoying. I almost gave up many times but stuck it out.

Unexpected
After reading almost every single adult fantasy romance out there, I thought I’ve read all there is, but I was pleasantly surprised by this book. The description labels it right - this book is angsty, hear-breaking and a bit steamy. I’m excited for the next instalment coming out this month.

Hmmm not sure
So I do enjoy the writing in this book however I’m not so happy with the characters. Firstly Laith needs to get some balls and stop letting him get away with treating her like crap. Really hope she doesn’t end up with Rorden!
And i don’t think I like raised from a baby to lovers trope. Don’t think that’s my cup of tea!
Narration was good though will defo listen to her again!
