Summary
Captivating and action-packed, From Blood and Ash is a sexy, addictive, and unexpected fantasy perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas and Laura Thalassa.
A Maiden...
Chosen from birth to usher in a new era, Poppy’s life has never been her own. The life of the Maiden is solitary. Never to be touched. Never to be looked upon. Never to be spoken to. Never to experience pleasure. Waiting for the day of her Ascension, she would rather be with the guards, fighting back the evil that took her family, than preparing to be found worthy by the gods. But the choice has never been hers.
A Duty...
The entire kingdom’s future rests on Poppy’s shoulders, something she’s not even quite sure she wants for herself. Because a Maiden has a heart. And a soul. And longing. And when Hawke, a golden-eyed guard honor bound to ensure her Ascension, enters her life, destiny and duty become tangled with desire and need. He incites her anger, makes her question everything she believes in, and tempts her with the forbidden.
A Kingdom...
Forsaken by the gods and feared by mortals, a fallen kingdom is rising once more, determined to take back what they believe is theirs through violence and vengeance. And as the shadow of those cursed draws closer, the line between what is forbidden and what is right becomes blurred. Poppy is not only on the verge of losing her heart and being found unworthy by the gods, but also her life when every blood-soaked thread that holds her world together begins to unravel.
Critic reviews
"Dreamy, twisty, steamy escapism. Take me back!" --New York Times bestseller Wendy Higgins
“Jennifer Armentrout has the power to control my emotions with every word she writes. From swooning to crying to racing through the pages to find out what happens next, I couldn't stop reading about Hawke and Poppy, and you won't be able to either.” --Brigid Kemmerer, New York Times bestselling author of A Curse So Dark and Lonely
"Narrator Stina Nielsen enthralls with this sumptuous romance, which highlights her ability to thoroughly immerse listeners in its fantasy world.… Nielsen employs a wide range of inflections, from the warm, breathless tone of the heroine to the appealing accent of Hawke, the love interest, combining them in the sensual scenes they share." --AudioFile Magazine, An Earphones Award Winner

NSFW alert
All together a really good book, I would recommend it for the younger generation, obviously 18+ but I really like the build around religions and traditions and the mythical creatures, honestly it's like a breath of fresh air. I like the build around the plot, some things are predictable but it still didn't deter me from reading further. Others are really unexpected.

Amazing
Such a great story! Jennifer weaves a story with an amazing strong heroine, who fights against all the odds set against her. Poppy and Hawkes chemistry is OTC. Their banter provided me with so many laughs .
Stina’s narration was perfection to listed to, she easily is my new favourite narrator ⭐️

Fantastic story and brilliant audio performance
I’m not very good at writing reviews but I had to write it! It’s one of the best romance stories I’ve read and I’ll definitely be reading more of these! The author is a master of the written work just as the narrator is the master of brining the story alive. In this book you’ll find the most beautiful first time (and everything else leading up to it), you can feel the excitement and thrill as you go along. Unmissable! Great work and insight into people’s thoughts and dilemmas. Keep up the great work x

Highly Enjoyable Fantasy Romance
I’ve greatly enjoyed these novels and am eagerly anticipating the next instalments from Ms Armentrout. I’ve loved the characters, the world building and yes, it’s a bit of guilty pleasure but it’s fun, romantic, dramatic and wrings one’s emotions. It’s fantasy so I’ve just gone with the flow and loved it. I had read them all (plus the prequels) a couple of times over and thought I’d see what I thought of an audible version and I had a spare credit. It has made long drives far more entertaining!! My English ears were a little affronted at the ‘Dook’s’ character and the ‘Doody’ Poppy referred to a lot (I was pleased Hawke pronounced them properly as ‘D-yuke’ and ‘Dew-tee’!!) but other than that I thought the diction, character voices and reading was impeccable. I’ve now used another credit on the second in preparation of a train journey this weekend!

Love love loved it
Amazing, slow in the beginning, but sooo worth it when you get to know the universe the author has created. Ending with a cliffhanger, ofc.

Loved it
Really enjoyed this, way more than I thought I would- did find some bits repetitive but the story and the characters kept me enticed enough that could brush past that
The writing was so descriptive I could imagine the scenery, feel and the emotions - it was a sensory experience
Straight onto book two! Xx
