About this listen
Callypso Lillis is a siren with a very big problem, one that stretches up her arm and far into her past. For the last seven years she’s been collecting a bracelet of black beads up her wrist, magical IOUs for favors she’s received. Only death or repayment will fulfill the obligations. Only then will the beads disappear. Everyone knows that if you need a favor, you go to the Bargainer to make it happen. He’s a man who can get you anything you want … at a price. And everyone knows that sooner or later he always collects. But for one of his clients, he’s never asked for repayment.
Not until now. When Callie finds the fae king of the night in her room, a grin on his lips and a twinkle in his eye, she knows things are about to change. At first it’s just a chaste kiss—a single bead’s worth—and a promise for more. For the Bargainer, it’s more than just a matter of rekindling an old romance. Something is happening in the Otherworld. Fae warriors are going missing one by one. Only the women are returned, each in a glass casket, a child clutched to their breast. And then there are the whispers among the slaves, whispers of an evil that’s been awoken. If the Bargainer has any hope to save his people, he’ll need the help of the siren he spurned long ago. Only, his foe has a taste for exotic creatures, and Callie just happens to be one.

Well that took a while
It only gets going the last 1/4. So really had to stick with it. I felt the narration was a bit hit and miss especially where the accent was in place. The term “the siren in me” got a bit tiresome. I may read the next one, but it is not currently on my reading list!

Enjoyable
After a slow start with dual timelines, the story picks up. Fey are being taken and are returned, asleep in caskets, with babies that behave strangely. Despite asks Callie to help him solve the reason for the disappearances to pay off all of the bargains she has made with him. Really enjoyed this story and the developing relationship between the two main characters. The missing Fey plot was also great. Will definitely give the next book a go. Narrator is really good and it's always clear who is speaking. Will definitely look out for more by this narrator.

Little heartbreaker of a book
I love this story so much, you feel so sorry for the the main character. If you love a book that breaks your heart a little, this is the one for you. Really, such a great listen, it makes you long to start the second book immediately.

4,25🌟 mystery, angst, dark romantic fantasy
I like this even more than the 4 horsemen series. The angst was palpable, I felt their tension and her trauma deeply, even if most of it is insinuated or superficially described; in fact, as dark romance goes this one is pretty tame (or I read some really f# up 💩).
Their story goes back and forth between past and present (from the time they meet 8years previously to be exact).
There as many layers to their history and we, very slowly, discover them all, and it culminates on a big revel (that was not really a surprise at all). There is also a mystery in the present day that involves creepy kids and a bunch of crazy. Considering how powerful the bargained is I'm surprise by his inability to sort it out.
He is grumpy as, but he helps her (past and present) get through her trauma. Her special powers and how she uses them is super entertaining (in a kind of macabre sort of way).
Narration is excellent but, yet again, +catalogue and KU don't sync 😵😤😭😠😠😠. Is it that hard for Amazon to over that to its subscribers?????
