Set in the pre-Christian world of Glome on the outskirts of Greek civilization, it is a tale of two princesses: the beautiful Psyche, who is loved by the god of love himself, and Orual, Psyche's unattractive and embittered older sister, who loves Psyche with a destructive possessiveness. Her frustration and jealousy over Psyche's fate sets Orual on the troubled path of self-discovery.
Lewis's last work of fiction, this is often considered his best by critics.

Perfect Narrator
I really enjoyed this excellent retelling of a myth that is less well-known than it used to be and, although this is somewhat subjective, the narration almost exactly recreated the way I thought the book ought to sound when I read it as a teenager.

Neglected masterpiece beautifully read.
For me, this is C.S. Lewis' greatest book. The retelling of the legend of Cupid and Psyche is so imaginative and compelling that it makes you want to extend train journeys. The ending is profound and satisfying. Nadia May is one of the best readers on this site. A must.

Wonderfully performed
Loved it. Extremely well narrated but I found the ending a bit drawn out. Still definitely worth a read, especially for anyone interested in this mostly forgotten myth.

Lewis’s best novel, beautifully narrated.
This was the last of Lewis’s novels with which I came into contact, and I think it is the best. Subtle, gloriously characterised, beautiful in its way. Not easy to grasp, at its deepest levels, without reading and rereading (or listening) but totally enjoyable as a sort of historical mythological fiction in the vein of its Roman sources. It is also a deeply spiritual and imaginative work; if you know Lewis’s other fiction and especially his non-fiction you will hear echoes throughout of his main ideas about naturalism, reason, love, what it means to be human, and above all the beauty of God, the untamed lover. Wanda McCaddon’s reading is really wonderful too. For me her voice and Orual’s voice are the same thing. Altogether worth the listening time, and returning to over & again.

Superbly crafted story
Would you listen to Till We Have Faces again? Why?
Yes. There is so much detail and so many levels that you get something more from each reading.
I have read the paper copy multiple times, and bought the audio book to listen while commuting
What did you like best about this story?
The observation on how and why people behave the way that they do, which is so close to reality.
Any additional comments?
Narration was good apart from the attempt at a greek accent, that came across to me more like Russian.

Heartbreaking wisdom of dark and light
