About this listen

The United States of America is falling before the armies of the dead. Leading the sole survivors of the US Army's 10th Mountain Division out of the overrun city of New York, Captain Phil Hastings heads for the safety of Fort Indiantown Gap, a National Guard training facility deep in the woodlands of Pennsylvania.

Joining with other remnants of the military, government, and civilian communities, Hastings and his men must try to keep the tsunami of corpses from taking over the world and plan the resurrection of the nation.

But first, they have to outlast the ravages of the dead...and the living.

Absolutely stunning.

This is set in the same world as The Gathering Dead series by the same author, at the same moment in time as the first book. The attention to detail is great, from proceedures, to weapons, even down to talking the same sh*t-talk all soldiers talk when on down time in an area of operation. It's different but the same and anyone who's served, no matter what country for, will recognise the patter here. It makes it a whole lot easier to relate to the characters.

The story itself rumbles along at a nice old clip and there's never really a moment of to get bored. The non-military characters are realistic and interesting, and the military characters are just that-military characters. I recognised most of them, sort of, as people who I had served with. Hopefully the characters will return for more.

All in all a great story and well worth the price.

High quality

Good story. Really enjoyed it and its got a bit of a new angle on it in the shape of at least one character. Narration? R.C. Bray is the gold standard. Can not be faulted.

If you love ARISEN then here is another love.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Has that fast paced, can`t put down action tempo.

What did you like best about this story?

The story is very well written, full of set piece action you can see in the minds eye visually.

Which character – as performed by R.C. Bray – was your favourite?

DUDE! could read the weather and make it sound cool. This book he does with his god given talent. Characters are so life like. Hardened military bad asses.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Fire fights against the undead are always chaos, this book is no exception.

Any additional comments?

Loved it!! Next best thing I have read since ARISEN. More Please!!

Another great Zombie apocalypse book

I've read a few Zombie apocalypse books now and this one ranks amongst the best one out there, namely the Arisen series. I can see a good series starting and look forward to the next installation. RC bray, as usual (and I'm always repeating this) was amazing and made the book come alive.
To the authors, lay off Stilly!! The guy really gets his fair share of stick! :)
I'm looking forward to the next book, make sure you stick with RC bray reading it!

A nice surprise

I put off getting this for a long time. I wanted to finish arisen first. You could look at this as a side story if you want and it fits perfectly. Great action and the force is strong with Master Bray as usual. loved it.

Great zompocalypse novel

Totally recommend this. If you are a fan of Arisen this is a must read. Has the gritty military feel set in the zombie apocalypse . Author has a deep understanding of military ways , tactics , weapons, strategies etc. RC Bray is as usual awesome. Must read for fans of the genre

Great start.

This book is the first entry into a series that I can see becoming a big hit! I'm a sucker for military/zombie sci-fi and this book has everything you would expect from the genre. There's fun loving grunts, a mysterious virus that turns people into zombies (yet to be explained), a few bad ass leaders and people from almost every branch of the U.S. military! (which is awesome but it's missing an unflappable SAS guy because everyone loves a brit) but I digress, all in all this series has the potential to be a vast lore filled world. I can't wait to see where the authors take it.
