About this listen
A secret buried in the Antarctic. A puzzle unsolved for thousands of years.
And a Brooklyn-born master gunnery sergeant who's royally pissed that he has to babysit the researchers sent to figure it all out. Patrick "Wic" Finnegan's last op as a Marine Raider before retirement sends him to the frozen Ellsworth Subglacial Highlands. The only reason he's here? He owes a favor to an old friend, but that doesn't mean he has to like it.
When Wic finally sees what the team has uncovered, he can't believe his eyes, nor is he prepared for the violence to come. Soon, the portal opens and unleashes a storm of unbridled fury upon humanity.
From the Antarctic tundra to the streets of Manhattan, Wic and his team will be pushed to their limits as they fight to hold back Earth's ultimate threat. The odds are against them. Governments are toppling. And the Earth is falling into ruin.
Join best-selling authors Christopher Hopper and J.N. Chaney on what audiences call a "nonstop, break-neck thrill ride into metaspace". For fans of District 9, Expeditionary Force, and Galaxy's Edge, this is one military sci-fi thriller you won't be able to put down, and the official beginning to the hit series Ruins of the Galaxy.

Very good
Well I have to agree with a lot of the reviews that mentioned copying the expeditionary force and the ai resemblance to Skippy is uncanny and some other parts are very similar.
but I'm not complaining this itches the expeditionary force itch quite well while I'm waiting for the next book.
needlessly to say r.c. Bray did excellent as always

interestin story if not already done by Exp Force!
I came here to comment on other folks review. i totally agree with them, that this is an expeditionary force rip off, still enjoyed it though. but i cant believe how this even got the go ahead by publishers and audible and RC Bray!

Great Story.
Okay okay, I get it. An AI with a British accent is always going to be compared to Skippy but that doesn't mean the story doesn't hold it's own.
I loved it!

after 5 minutes this is nothing like Stargate, my advice funny listen to it in the car, I nearly crashed so many times getting right into the story and laughing so much, never laughed at a book do much.
best audiobook I have listened to, everything in it worked well and the accents were brilliant. would I recommend, good yes 😁😁😁😁😁😁

Excellent book and a fan of them all!
I could write a whole thing on the differences between this and another series I love but that would spoil things for you. Besides, any similarities simply highlight that I enjoy books written by grade A authors and will continue to buy their books. I will tell you that I thought the story was well written and well performed. The book had me hooked from start to finish and made me feel a raft of emotion. Thoroughly enjoyed and I've already purchased the next in the series.

Can't putdownable...
A brilliant book that has made me be late for work quite a few times as I simply couldn't put it down (pause). R C Bray is also one of my favourite readers, I could listen to this guys for hours. Oh, yeah, I just did.... Great story, that just flows so well, so much so that I have already purchased the next 3 books. Well done Mr H.

It’s good but…
…it has so many similarities to Expeditionary Force, it’s ridiculous.
I don’t think I’ll listen to any more of this series purely because as the main characters evolve, I am immediately reminded of a parallel in the EF books - its uncanny

Top quality syfy and performance by R C Bray
Many giving it a low rating say its a copy of expeditionary force, What could be a higher recommendation than that. I'm loving both stories and can't wait for more from both. R C Bray has so much spare time he narrates both series while hiding in his bunker under New York, what a man and legend.
