When Darius receives an invitation to attend the Training Grounds, he wonders why an insignificant farm boy would be asked to join the most elite training academy in Merchant Valley. The only thing special about him is that he has unsettling visions he can’t understand. Despite the unknown, he accepts this privilege, and with his best friend, they set out on this new adventure. While there, they quickly form alliances with a skilled archer, a talented blacksmith, and a powerful wielder of the elements.

Together, this new band of friends will learn that not all is as it seems at this new school. In fact, secret plots abound. It makes them question everything and everyone, including the head of the school, Dean Anders. Now it’s up to this adventurous group to uncover the truth about their world and find out the meaning of Darius’s vision. Visions that include a weapon known as the reaper that carries with it apocalyptic repercussions. But between classes, finding love, and training, will he and his friends be able to discover the truth before it’s too late?

Will keep you on the edge of your seat!

This book completely transported me to a different world. The story is set in a brutal future where swords are the only way to settle disputes and those who can control the elements are the most feared warriors. The plot was so well-crafted that I found myself completely engaged in the story from beginning to end.
The characters were incredibly well-developed and I loved how the author was able to create a complex world that felt both realistic and fantastical.
One thing I appreciated about this book was the attention to detail. The world-building was impeccable and I felt like I was living in this world alongside the characters. The fight scenes were intense and well-written, making me feel like I was right there in the thick of the action.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves sci-fi or fantasy novels. It's a thrilling book that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end. Definitely a must-have for any fan of the genre!

Epic Story

I love books that invite the reader into the story through the eyes of a young, unassuming hero. It's the underdog trope that I will forever love. Darius's journey is one of action and adventure. Thru his eyes, we see this world of magic and power. As he comes into his abilities we learn more and more about the universe the author creates. It's entertaining and exciting. I can't wait for the next book!

Tour de force

Wow, that was a long book! I enjoyed it a lot, Fairly standard young adult/superpowers (magic), but a good, well crafted plot and story. Lots of ups and downs with maybe a little to much agonising over relationships, which I find to be a common trope in most books these days. I guess it helps pad it out. The narration was excellent with a wide variety of voices for the varioius characters, even if some of them were rather over the top, but quite a tour de force from Mr Treselyan. Very enjoyable.
