Summary

Now a major BBC drama: The Strike series.

When novelist Owen Quine goes missing, his wife calls in private detective Cormoran Strike. At first, she just thinks he has gone off by himself for a few days - as he has done before - and she wants Strike to find him and bring him home.

But as Strike investigates, it becomes clear that there is more to Quine's disappearance than his wife realises. The novelist has just completed a manuscript featuring poisonous pen-portraits of almost everyone he knows. If the novel were published it would ruin lives - so there are a lot of people who might want to silence him.

And when Quine is found brutally murdered in bizarre circumstances, it becomes a race against time to understand the motivation of a ruthless killer, a killer unlike any he has encountered before....

A compulsively readable crime novel with twists at every turn, The Silkworm is the second in the highly acclaimed series featuring Cormoran Strike and his determined young assistant Robin Ellacott.

Not as good as book 1.

Where does The Silkworm rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I thoroughly enjoyed Book 1 but did find this storyline a bit lacklustre.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Felt the plot was made more complicated than it needed to be and although I usually love Robert Glenister's narration felt that at times even he lost interest. Could have been slightly shorter.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

Anytime Cormoron spoke to his friend Dave

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Cormoron Strikes again

Robin rising

"Silkworm," the second book in the Cormoran Strike series by J.K. Rowling, weaves a compelling narrative around the aftermath of Robin's reluctance to leave her beloved job. Strike and Robin join forces to revive the struggling detective agency, showcasing their resilience and determination.

This installment immerses listeners into the intriguing world of writers and publicists, a clever choice by Rowling. Beyond crafting a complex detective story, the narrative offers a glimpse into the intricate world of authors. While the first books highlighted Strike's abilities, "Silkworm" shines a spotlight on Robin's significant contributions to the agency.

The book captures the essence of the first significant conversation between Strike and Robin, revealing more about Strike's personal life and his growing trust in Robin as a valuable partner. What stands out most is the emergence of Robin's personality and strengths, adding depth to the engaging storyline set against the backdrop of a world seemingly detached from the mundanity of murder.

"Silkworm" not only reinforces the evolving dynamics between Strike and Robin but also presents a captivating tale immersed in a literary universe, making it a compelling addition to the Cormoran Strike series.

great story

Great story, a good follow up to Galbraith's first book! Would definitely recommend to fans of detective novels and thillers. This one is a bit more gory then the first.

Thoroughly enjoyable book

I am loving the series and have just bought book 3. The Silkworm is captivating and I found it hard to turn away from. The story moves at a great pace and there's never a dull moment. Strike is a brilliant character and I am also enjoying Robin's character unfolding with each new case. I can't wait to get stuck into Career of Evil.

Really enjoyed it

As the previous book about Cormoran, I really enjoyed it. (The ending however escalated, became comical, and more like a parody. What happened there!? ^^)

Performance enhances story

Robert Glenister’s performance helps to increase the listening enjoyment of this story It is very involved and needs concentration but Robert’s acting helps to maintain interest. There were times that I had to carry on listening despite other commitments because the story was so intriguing.
Now I must listen to the next book in the series.!

A Complicated Treat

Robert Glenister is the perfect reader for this strange story. Galbraith weaves a story from the oddest of threads, pulling and knotting them into an elaborate cloth of Byzantine complexity. At times patience is a gift that will allow you to share the logic that Strike employs to find the villain from the mere nasty folk.

Really enjoyed The Silkworm

This book is really enjoyable. Great plot. Complicated enough to keep me wondering who the killer was right till the end and satisfying enough to continue understanding and getting to know the main characters. I’m looking forward to starting the next book in about ten minuits. Thank you very well read.
