About this listen
Penguin presents the unabridged, downloadable audiobook edition of The Sea Detective by Mark Douglas-Home.
Cal McGill is an Edinburgh-based oceanographer, environmentalist and one-of-a-kind investigator. Using his knowledge of the waves - ocean currents, prevailing winds, shipping records - McGill can track where objects came from or where they've gone. It's a skill that can help solve mysteries ranging from disappearances to murder.
Two severed feet wash up on two different islands off the coast of Scotland. Forensics shows that the feet belong to the same body. As Cal McGill investigates, he unravels a web of corruption, exploitation and human trafficking, which threatens many lives across the globe - including his own....

Really great start to a series.
Absolutely loved this, a fab introduction to some lovely new characters and a good plot. Although I have to admit I've realised I would be entranced by David Monteath's voice reading a dictionary!

loved this audiobook
The story was well written and has an original angle on crime with some very funny situations and good humour. Good characterisation and narration. I am looking forward to listening to the next audiobook.

5 star storyline and narration
Great storyline with twists and turns, seediest side of humanity dealt with but also humour. Fantastic narration. I am looking for more in this series.

Interesting & diverse crime thriller
I enjoyed this unusual crime story it was different to the many other crime thrillers as the protagonist is not a detective but an oceanographer, environmentalists & eco warrior who uses his knowledge of ocean currents to track where objects originate from or may wash/end up. This is the first book & you are introduced to the main character & find out a bit about him & his families history & particularly the wrongs done to his grandfather. There is some humour & Detective Ryan who is an odious chauvinist who treats his plain slightly overweight (but very intelligent) female sergeant Helen Jameson abominably whilst sleeping with as many of his young more attractive female colleagues as he can so he really deserves to get his comeuppance. I hope Sgt Helen Jameson is a recurring character. I purchased this book because it was narrated by the brilliant David Monteath & I wasn't disappointed so much so that I intend to purchase the next in the series. Recommended.

Clever and horrific plotlines
Several outlines twinned together smoothly, lots af interesting details and facts. Some of the characters are maybe a little clinched but nearly all the voices feel believable and authentic.

..... but not all at sea!
An excellent book introducing a different kind of investigator - Cal McGill, an oceanographer who is an expert on tidal movement around the Scottish coast. He is reluctantly brought in by DCI Dave Ryan to help identify where the dead body of a young girl may have been swept in from. The book follows several plot lines which are well written and keep your interest throughout. I hope there are more books to come involving Call.
