About this listen
There is no greater burden than a secret, and Kari Stanley has been carrying one alone for a long time.
But fate intervenes in the form of a broken down car and the kind offer of assistance from a handsome stranger with a sweet, southern drawl.
In exchange, all she has to do is go to dinner with him.
Temptation was never so sweet.
Max Quinn has secrets of his own.
His good deeds aren't just a product of his southern upbringing; they're his atonement.
As one dinner turns into two, he realizes that Kari just might be his salvation.
As they struggle to find their path together, their secrets weigh heavier on them.
Will they be able to trust one another with the truth, or will their secrets keep them apart forever?
This book CAN be listened to as a stand-alone novel.

Awesome narration
This book is good and flows nicely. Stella Bloom gives and outstanding performance especially at the beginning of the book. The way she shows the emotions the author so eloquently describes is outstanding. A great book that is well worth 5 stars.

Max was everything
This book starts at mid relationship between Max and Kari (we first meet them and get a glimpse of their relationship in the first book “The Exception”). I was worried that we would get a replay of everything that happened in the first book and was so happy where it started timeline-wise. That also means you probably need to read/listen to book 1 to really understand the story.
Loved Max and Kari in book 1. Max was still absolutely amazing. Be still my heart. Lots to hate about Kari's reasoning/wishy-washy with Max so that's why I dropped a star. But very steamy and an overall great listen.
Lee Samuels was the perfect Max. I'm not a huge fan of Stella Bloom and true to her narration style Kari sounded like a ditz.
