About this listen
Trapped in a dungeon. There's only one way out. Kill or be killed....
An AI calling itself Schema has assimilated Earth into its System. As a consequence, everyone gained access to status screens, power-ups, and skills. This AI turned these concepts from fiction to fact. It's easy to become intoxicated with leveling up and becoming stronger. To some, it's too good to be true, like living out a dream.
For Daniel, however, it's closer to a nightmare.
He's in a bit of a predicament. Cracks in our dimensional fabric have unleashed terrifying beasts from dark, abyssal places. Schema organizes these cracks into dungeons, giving the native species of the planet a chance to fight back.
Daniel finds himself stuck in one of these dungeons. It's time to break free, by any means necessary.
Experience the start of an action-packed LitRPG apocalypse series with nearly 15 million views on Royal Road.

Absolutely curve ball, and smashed expectations!!!
The story takes a unique twist as cracks in the dimensional fabric release terrifying creatures into the world, and Schema organizes them into dungeons, allowing the native species to fight back.
The characters are well-developed, and you’ll find yourself rooting for Daniel as he navigates this perilous world, doing whatever it takes to break free. The LitRPG elements are skillfully woven into the plot, adding an extra layer of excitement to the story.

A litrpg is like a box of chocolates
You never know what you’re going to get.
Overall a fun book. I enjoyed the suspiciously Randidly Ghosthound-esqe start and the tree system seems a lot like the path system from that book. Then it segues into something inspired by defiance of the fall (ish) as far as the plot goes I think.
There are some negatives though so no 5 stars I’m afraid.
The “hey buddy what’s this screen” “I dunno looks like a video game screen to me” introduction of the system felt pretty lazy.
There are some bad language choices, repetitive use of words in the same sentence, when they use text chat stating the name, class and level every time they sent a message felt really annoying etc and the dialogue between characters feels pretty stilted sometimes. I feel like this is perhaps the authors first book.
But you end up with a kind of OP MC who has an original power set and is fun to follow, along with a some interesting side characters (loved the lich dude) and an end of story challenge beyond the MCs level that sets the scene nicely for the next book.
At first I I didn’t like the narrator but it dawned on me that the main character sounded like a dumb teenager because that’s what he is at the start and some of the other characters were well voiced, the lich and the mutant lass in particular. So voice acting is good although not great.
In short I nearly gave up on it after 5 chapters but I stuck with it and really enjoyed it in the end despite the above niggles.
If you like the genre and have a spare credit it’s worth a listen. I will pick up the next in the series when it comes out.

Mediocre
The reading is at times a monotone drone, the protagonist a dullard. There are other books that are more interesting.

Amazing
This one of the best litrpg stories I’ve heard in a long time, it took a chapter or so to get into. The narrator was brilliant too
