Jocelyn loves her nanny more than her own mother – until the night that the nanny disappears. Jo is seven years old when it happens and never gets over the loss.

Now, thirty years later, Jo is returning to her family home with her daughter in tow – just as human remains are pulled out of the house's lake.

Then there’s a knock on the door. And a woman claiming to be her nanny stands outside.

Is she who she says she is?
Can she be trusted?
And what really happened on that fateful night all those years ago?

Sometimes the truth hurts so much you’d rather hear the lie.

predictable

The storyline was predictable and I guessed the plot very early on. Characters were good. Narration excellent.

Pageturner

I loved this book and it's narrator. Full of unforesabale twists, was sorry when it ended.

Enjoyed this book

The story is good and has lots of twists and turns you don't see coming and I enjoyed it but felt it left the story on a bit of a cliff hanger and a bit of an easy out just to end the story.

Enjoyed this very much

Despite the dodgy male voice and the American voices.
Clare Corbett as ever is just wonderful to listen too.
I only chose this - as C Corbett was narrating. I have chosen several titles this way and haven’t been disappointed! She seems to choose wisely as I have yet to listen to anything bad that she narrated. I shall look for more by this author. Oops I already have used a credit! Ha ha

Distinctly average

I doubt I will remember this book! The characters were frustrating and unlikeable. Parts of the story line were just dropped and leave you wondering what the point of it was. Generally I enjoy a R&J bookclub read, but this was just so bland.

Brilliant!

What a complicated story this is. I liked the fact that the author gradually changes your mind about each character, such that those who start out likeable aren’t necessarily so by the end. All the narration was excellent as well. A perfect listen that I highly recommend.

Good Thriller

If you like behind close door or that kind of book then this is similar type of book...
You get into the story pretty early on and will hang your curiosity until the end...

Very enjoyable

This has all the ingredients for a very enjoyable listen. Old house, body found in the lake, family secrets, vaguely aristocratic parents and a Gothic feel. In fact I found it hard to press pause!
