Summary
One moment destroyed our perfect love.
This is an emotional, angsty, tearjerker, why choose romance duet by USA Today best-selling a author Claudia Burgoa.
I fell in love with Archer St. James long ago. We were children, but our hearts just knew it. We were soulmates. Our love was eternal. But it wasn’t.
My future and my heart shattered the day he died. Well, they say he died, but I still sense him. They call it ghost pains. It’s like my soul can’t live without him. And after seven years, I’m almost ready to let him go....
There are two men who claimed to care for me—even love me. One looks almost like the man I lost. The other is so different, but the invisible link between us pulls me to him. My already shattered heart is torn between the past, the present, and a dangerous future with two men.
The End of Me is the first book of The Downfall of Us Duet. An angst-filled why choose MMF romance about broken hearts, loss, and hope.

Excellent, I’m so glad I have the second book downloaded
Fans of romance, slow build, suspicion, intrigue, suspense, and grief are going to love this book, but be aware it is part one and it does end on one almighty cliffhanger
Listening to the story I became so engrossed in the lives of Piper, Derek Archer and Finn. I’m sure you will too.
Narration is excellent, and could not be improved upon the trio. Do a wonderful
Job bringing each and every character to life.

Brilliant Story & Listen🎧Enthralling & Heartfelt!
Claudia Burgoa has outdone herself once again with this amazing story, the first book in “The Downfall of Us” duet. I was looking forward to Piper and Archer St. James’ story after the “Covert Affairs” duet, Seth and Teddy’s story, and finding out what happened to Archer, who never returned from a mission with the Organization. Piper and Archer are the loves of each other’s lives and she does not believe he is dead, she still sensed him in her soul. It has been a struggle for her, but she is not giving up hope and continues to wait for him to return home. In Seth’s book we get a glimpse of what happened to him and in this book Burgoa pieces it all together and we find out what happened to him, what he has endured, how he survived and where he winds up. Archer has no recollection of who he was or anything of his past, he wondered why no one came looking for him and concluded that his family abandoned him. He has dreams of a girl, not sure who she is, only that she appears in his dreams. The man who captured Archer brought in a specialist to help him regain his memories. Derek Farrow, a former Navy Seal and mercenary, sensed there was something more to Archer, who is called Travis now, and he tries to help him the best that he can but his time is limited and he leaves him with some resources before he has to leave. Derek returns to the states and wound up getting a job with Piper, the two become close friends, though he would like it to be more, but she is still hung up on Archer. These three wind up in each other’s lives for a reason, and they do not even know it yet, but in the end Derek finally realizes that Finn is Archer and Piper is the girl of his dreams. I loved this book and could not put it down because I needed to know what was going to happen next and now I need to start the next one, need to know what Derek is going to do and how Piper is going to handle the news. This beautiful written and plotted story has the perfect balance of drama, angst, twists and turns, thrilling suspense, heartfelt emotions, and a wonderful romance. Claudia Burgoa, thank you for another brilliant story and emotional rollercoaster ride.
🎧📚🎧 And for the wonderful narration, Jason Clarke, Maxine Mitchell and Lance Greenfield did an amazing job bringing these characters to life, humanizing them with their emotions and had you feeling every single one. They had a complete upstanding of the characters they were portraying, giving each a voice that fit that character’s persona and was believable in every role they played. Mitchell nailed it as Piper, she grasped every side of her personality, Mitchell’s Piper was spot on, she grasped her every emotion, from her sorrow, hopefulness to her strength and determination. Clarke did the same for Archer/Finn, switching it up from an optimistic Archer to an almost soulless Finn. Greenfield as Derek was perfection too. These versatile voice artists are entertaining storytellers and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another exceptional listen.

Amazing
This book was such a rollercoaster ride. One minute, I was crying, then I was happy, and then I was sad. Only to start all over again. I feel like I've been in an emotional washing machine.
But it was absolutely amazing, and I can't wait to jump straight into book 2.
The narrators were amazing they did such a good job at portraying the characters and bringing all the emotions to life

Piper & Derek & Finn/Archer Book 1
The End of Me was an angsty, emotional rollercoaster of epic proportions.
Archer and Piper have been together since they were toddlers and have only ever been with each other. From the moment they met they knew they were forever and straying was never in the cards. They planned their whole future from a young age and nothing but death would stop them from completing their destiny.
One fatal mission gone wrong and Archer disappears to never be found again. Piper is beside herself and struggles to believe Archer is gone. When she meets Derek her fragile heart starts feeling something else but grief however she still struggles to move on. Derek is older and with time he develops feelings for Piper whilst also struggling with feelings he developed for a patient.
The twists and turns in this book are brilliant and kept me hooked. The Decker family is huge and chaotic and I feel I would have loved this book more if I had listened to all the other books that came before but in any way did this distract me from enjoying it.
The brilliance in this book is also in the narrators. Jason Clarke doesn’t just narrate one character, he narrates two different personalities of the same character and you could tell when he was being Archer, the devoted husband and when he was being Tristan/Finn, the emotionless person that we get to meet. Maxine Mitchell gives her voice to the grieving Piper and you could feel the sadness emanating from the character. Lance Greenfield narrates Derek, everyone’s rock but never the one chosen.
After the cliffhanger I’m jumping right in into book 2.

So much angst
OMG! There is so much angst in this book!! This was such an emotional story, there’s so much grief, anger, confusion, sadness, hope, frustration… we get ALL of the emotions! Piper is such an amazing wonderful person, she is so loving and always giving. She’s trying to live while also being stuck in a holding pattern.
I was utterly captivated and couldn’t put this story down, you have to know how everything is going to play out. I can’t wait to see how things go from here.

Angst and Emotion!
Piper and Archer have known that they were soulmates from the time that they were children and had their whole life planned out until Archer disappears. Piper is the only one that believes he is still alive as she can not only feel him but his emotions as well. She isn’t prepared to move on, but Derek slowly breaks through the walls she has built around herself.
Derek is a complex character as he isn’t close to his family and has been hurt in the past. When he takes an assignment helping the son of a dangerous cartel his life will never be the same.
Finn finds himself in an untenable situation where he doesn’t remember his past which has made him cautious and very private. Derek is there when he needs someone the most but there is also a woman in his dreams that he doesn’t remember and can’t forget.
The narrators are a perfect choice as this story is filled with so much angst and so much emotion and have you feeling for the plight of all three characters and leave you wanting more of them and their story.

I’ve been waiting for Piper and Archer’s story!!
Audiobook review: Narrated by Maxine Mitchell, Lance Greenfield and Jason Clarke
4.5 stars for story / 5 stars for performance
I have been waiting so long for Archer and Piper's story. I love that the first book in this duet gives us such an insight into what happened after the accident in which these two get separated. Piper was everything I hoped she would be and more. The dedication she has for Archer is unwavering, and knowing what we know from previous stories, makes this story so heart wrenching (in the best ways). The introduction of Derek was well timed and the multi-layered relationship between all our main characters was so entertaining and made this story so much more emotional.
I am so glad I got to experience this on audio. I couldn't say enough about Maxine Mitchell. She is at the top of the game as far as romance narrators and I will instantly listen to anything she reads. Jason Clarke has such a perfect voice for an alpha-male main character and the anger that Finn exudes is amplified so much by his performance. Lance Greenfield also plays so well off both the other two and he is so easy on the ears, which is a plus since this book was so hard to turn off. I highly, highly recommend getting this one on audio.
