Wonderful.
Unfortunately for him, Eric Ward attracts the attention of all the wrong people. The man, however, does not make things easier for himself and agrees to help a highly suspicious and anxiety-inducing person. "The Diamond Murder" offers less legal wrangling and more sly investigation and scheming, but the quality of the plot, pace, characterisation and atmosphere remain sky-high and Roy Lewis delivers another great story in this excellent series.

Good story
Dreadful pronouncing of place names in Northumberland. North East accent is also poor. Wards voice lacks emotion .

Weak Protagonist
These novels written in the 80s are meant to have a different thrust than today's pathetic attitudes. But they are just as bad as all other wimpy male attitudes of this century, so just one more protagonist devoid of discernment and strength of mind to not be manipulated.
I'm stubborn, I keep trying to enjoy these, but with this one I just skipped to the end to bypass all the annoying silliness and time-wasting dialogue
