About this listen

When playboy businessman Jonas Faraday receives a private note from the anonymous intake agent assigned to process his online application to an exclusive club, he becomes obsessed with finding her and giving her the satisfaction she claims has always eluded her, in order to fulfill his own desperate need for redemption.

Sarah: When I read Jonas Faraday’s brutally honest personal message on his application to The Club, I practically climaxed at my desk. I’m an idiot to risk losing my job, but I couldn't resist contacting him. I knew my confession would be like dangling an irresistible carrot in front of his nose—but never in a million years did I think he’d actually hunt me down.

Jonas: I was shocked to get my intake agent’s email—I’d attached that note to my application on a whim, never expecting a reply from an actual person, let alone a reply as mind-blowing as that. Her message was so alluring, so irresistible, I’ve been spiraling into a full-blown obsession ever since I got it. What’s her name? What does she look like? Finding her is my top priority.

In The Club, what starts out as an innocent exploration of attraction between two strangers quickly spirals into a steamy story of unbridled passion, obsession, heartbreak, and, ultimately, redemption.

Wasn't expecting to Laugh.....

When I started listening to this, I was shocked to be Laughing out loud straight away, I must admit, at first i didn't know if I was laughing with the Author's writing or at it! But I soon discovered I was laughing with her and this character she had created, this man, Jonas, was going to keep me giggling like a school girl for the duration of the book! Total arrogant pig, who met his match in Sarah!

I enjoyed both narrators, the Author narrated Sarah and her complete knowledge of the character and how she wanted her portrayed came across, I loved her excitement and fun, it made listening a joy. I was driving around for the most part with a smile or a blush on my face.

There is a fair bit of inner monologues going on, I quite enjoyed it, I love to get know what the characters are thinking, and unless they are writing a diary, talking to other people, you don't get that any other way. A great Book, great listen. Loved that it ended how it did, with some drama from the Club!! A fabulous cliffhanger for Sarah and Jonas to deal with in Book 2.

GREAT START TO A NEW SEXY SERIES

Woah! That will teach me for judging a book by it's title.

I loved Jonas and Sarah, The Club was not what what I was expecting at all.

I love Lauren Rowe's books, fallen in love with some of the characters and I'm going backwards in her writing, having read all the new releases with the Morgans I wanted to know how it all began and was highly interested in the Faraday family which are inter-linked in a way as they are mentioned in some of the newer books by Lauren.

My thoughts of this being a sex club type of read with bdsm and that kind of thing was completely wrong. The Sex club is completely different and the blurb if only I have read this instead of just looking at the cover explains it really well on how Sarah and Jonas eventually meet.

Basically the Club is a membership where you pay and are given a wrist band and a phone to check into whatever location, another person who is the same colour wrist band as you, In Jonas's case a woman would receive your location and meet you. The wrist band is how they identify one-another and also the colour is what you are given, like colour-coded to your match. It's a no strings kind of hook up for members. I suppose it's like tinder but with a very expensive fee. For a busy businessman like Jonas who doesn't want a relationships it suits his needs.

THE CLUB is different, refreshing and so, so hot!!

Sarah receives Jonas's application which is her first in her new job and she is intrigued by his forwardness and his surety on how he can please a woman which she finds absurd when she has never even had an orgasm, so his "I can make any woman come" ind of statement rubs her up the wrong way and she writes him an email stating her facts. They are never supposed to meet, Sarah never meets the club's clients, she is merely the paperwork girl but but Jonas's finds himself intrigued with Sarah's email and goes on a mission to find the woman who has captivated him with her words.

I have wanted to read this for ages and I am kicking myself now for waiting so long, I loved these characters, Sarah is sassy and outspoken and Jonas is just sex on a swoon-worthy stick.

There is a lot more to the plot than sex although there sure is a lot of it and I am looking forward to the next book where there are twists in the plot with regards to THE CLUB.

I listened to this in audio which I have for a few of Lauren's books and as always it was brilliantly narrated, Lauren always does the female narration which is something I really like, she brings her own characters to life.

Told in first person dual pov and leads to a happy for now with more to follow. Available in Ku and Audio.

Sexy and romantic

The club is a sweet narrative about two screwed up people who find happiness together. If you like Fifty Shades then I certainly would recommend. Having the story narrated from both lead characters works really well, so as a reader you can enjoy the journey they make together. There's a fair few sex scenes, so not the sort of book I'll be recommending to my mother-in-law, but overall I thought the book was sweet, I liked both characters and wanted them to find happiness together. Having a male and female read the book also made it great to listen to.

Formulaic, predictable, implausible

Any additional comments?

The 50 shades of grey formula is now well understood: arrogant male protagonist aged 30ish, successful entrepreneur, so handsome that women swoon when they see him, some dark secret in his murky past which the female protagonist will have to uncover... and of course, suitably well endowed and always ready for action; independent and feisty female protagonist early 20s, slightly ingenue, stunning (although of course she doesn't realise this), well educated... This book doesn't stray too far from the plan.
Law student, Sarah, has lost hope that any knight in shining armour will ever be able to deliver the big O for her, but wealthy playboy businessman, Jonas, thinks he is certainly the man for the job, and he has a cunning plan...
It isn't awful - I've read worse rip-offs of 50 shades (which for the record, I actually did enjoy), and despite the opening chapter, in which Jonas reveals himself to be a complete jerk, he does become more likeable. Narrative alternates between Jonas and Sarah (would have been better to start with Sarah I feel). The author narrates Sarah, and I think does a pretty good job - after all, she certainly knows what emphasis to give to the character. I didn't particularly like the male narrator, finding his brusque style a bit dull.
There was some humour, and I quite liked the witty email banter between them (although not a patch on the exchanges between Christian and Ana). Of course it's explicit, but it fails to build up any real erotic tension, possibly because of the extremely short time frame, which doesn't allow development of the characters or their relationships, so when Sarah continually asks herself 'why oh why does this man have such an effect on me?' (or words to that effect), it is wholly unsurprising that she never finds an answer... maybe she's ovulating when she meets him, and it will all be much more rational in a week's time?! There certainly seems to be some considerable confusion between 'in love' and 'in lust'... but then I've never been a believer in love at first sight.
I won't spoil the story by revealing any more. I wouldn't mind knowing what happens next, but actually I'd rather spend my credits on something different.
