About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

A case shrouded in secrets.

It’s just before Christmas, 1953. Grasby and Juggers are investigating a puzzling murder in the remote village of Uthley’s Bay. A fisherman has been found dead on the beach, with a stocking wound tight round his throat.

A festive mystery for one and all.
Hundreds of pairs of stockings, in neat cellophane bags, soon wash up on the shore. A blizzard cuts off Grasby and Juggers from help, and the local innkeeper is murdered. Any remaining Christmas cheer goes up in smoke as the villagers refuse to talk, leaving the two detectives chasing false leads in the snow.

A winter wonderland with no escape.
To make matters worse, Grasby can’t stop thinking about stockings. Why does everyone seem to be enjoying strangely high standards of hosiery, even beneath their oilskins? Who is the sinister bespectacled man snooping around their hotel? And how can they solve the murder when everyone in the village is a suspect?

Just brilliant…

2nd fantastic Frank Grasby book, please keep writing, Christmas was made so much better (if that’s possible!) snuggling up by the fire with a whisky and the wonderful voice of Tom Turner.

Another Belter. Say I

Loving this series and feel this was slightly better than the first one which was also great. Narrator spot on too. Denzil Meyrick is amazing. Never lets you down with the speed he puts books out, which as fans we appreciate.

I could not stop laughing out loud at this story. The performance is perfect. But it’s also a good mystery.

Densil Meyrick brilliant as usual

Yet another fantastic book from Denzil Meyrick. A gripping murder/thriller and brilliantly funny. Cleverly using language from the era but with connotations connected to today. Thoroughly enjoyed.

Excellent story

Brilliant second book involving Frank Grasby, loved the character development and the relationship between him and his boss, Juggers. Very funny in parts and the use of the language of that time period made me laugh out loud. Really clever book, Denzil Meyrick is a fantastic writer.

Gripping murder mystery brilliantly written and narrated with touches of great humour.

I had this on preorder and when it arrived on Audible having read the previous Frank Grasby outing. I wasn’t disappointed . A gripping storyline with some great humour that keeps you engaged to the end . The main character Frank Grasby is likeable and human but also a good detective . Cant wait for the next book !

enjoyable

I enjoyed listening to The Christmas Stocking Murders, the storyline plodded along well and I enjoyed the development. I did think the story got bogged down when the main character went on a tandem, the style of writing was both good and distracting. The reveal of the murderer wasn't expected but by the time the reveal happened I felt like everything else swallowed it up. A lot was happening with the side characters and I found this too distracting with the Narrative.

Nostalgia and wit with a dash of murder

Excellent story, love that it’s set in my native North Yorkshire. Twists and turns and excellent characters. Seasonal entertainment at its best.
