About this listen

If you ask nearly anyone in the South what Sherman did during the Civil War, most people would say that he destroyed the Southern states, leaving ashes and bodies in his wake. Many would say that he burned Atlanta or Columbia. Who could argue with that? It's what we've been told for over 150 years!

But how do we know what happened? What if the history books got it wrong? Who wrote the official stories that have been passed down to us today? How can we trust that we are sharing the correct history?

In this book, you will be guided through the historical record left behind by both sides of the argument. You will sift through the documents to determine whether you can trust the writers of the records. When you get to the end of the book, you will be faced with the challenge to make the choice for yourself.

Did General Sherman really burn Columbia...or has he been the fall guy all along?

Detailed review of the evidence

A real interesting account that doesn't get bogged down in academic language. But it doesn't dumb down either, citing a wide array of evidence, contemporary accounts and an analysis of "facts" and opinions. if you're interested in this period of American history it's a must.

Great book for Fans of History

This book is a great listen for anyone who is a fan of American History. It offers a detailed accounting of the burning of Columbia, South Carolina, and seems to be well researched and well presented. It offers some new insights into a portion of Sherman's March to the Sea that so many found so destructive during the American Civil War. The performance is very well suited to the topic and provides the right intonation throughout the listen. This is a must if you like history or are a civil war buff.

Revelations from a man of honor and integrity

The authors total transparency of not only military actions, but also of himself and his many personal connections.
This document would serve our present younger generation as a personal conduct in all phases of their personal and business endeavors.
This is also a breath of fresh air to us elders in reminding us why our country has remained morally strong. We still have millions of citizens who try and do live their lives in a like manner.

Interesting

This book is such a breath of fresh air, and is packed with knowledge that they do not teach in schools anymore. People need to be educated on our history so we can prevent ourselves from making the same mistakes. Highley recommend.

Must Read!

I love learning about history but don't consider myself a true history buff. This book, however, blew me away! It was very well written with lots of facts and views that I wasn't taught about in school( at least that I remember.) I loved learning more about Sherman's role in the civil war.

I would definitely recommend this book!

Eye-opener

This book was an eye-opener. There are always 2 sides to every argument it seems! In this case, I had only heard one side which I'm sure is the case for many others.
If you're a fan of the great American history you'll love this. A highly detailed review of evidence from both sides to really get your brain thinking.

Two arguements on Sherman

This book enlightened my knowledge on Sherman's role in the American Civil War. The narrator/author presents two arguements for supporting and questioning Sherman's actions during this tumultuous time, and ultimately leaves it up to the listener/reader to decide. Excellent presentation with solid resources make this book an enjoyable listen. Thought provoking and well laid out. Highly recommended.
