About this listen

In the second installment of the History Time Traveler series, The Allies Defeat Nazi Germany, November 1944, our time traveler, Robert Evans, decides to stay in 1942 because of a possible problem with the time machine.

Learn how the Pacific War turns out differently. See if the time traveler can work with General Marshall and President Roosevelt to defeat Nazi Germany sooner, hopefully shortening World War II in Europe, and saving innumerable lives on both sides of the war.

A Story Well Told

History would have been so much better if it played out like it does in this book. By the time I was getting to Chapter 13 to life after the war, I was so invested. I feel like I have just listened to Robert Evan's journal. I can't decide what I loved the most about this novella. Maybe it's how everyone involved is humanized. Maybe it's the wistfulness it has me feeling. Either way, I can't recommend this book enough.

An engrossing story of the "Second World War II"

I was fascinated by this wonderful book about a fellow who creates a time machine and travels back to the World War II era from 2022, and then uses his knowledge of the history of the war and its aftermath to fundamentally prevent the greatest disasters of that time by sharing his knowledge with allied leaders. The changes wrought include preventing the nuclear bombing of Japan, the the ill-fated invasion of Anzio by allied forces, as well as the entire U.S. involvement in the war in the Pacific. The latter is accomplished in the first book of this series by heading off U.S. losses at Pearl Harbor in this, the Second World War II, as I call it, and instead crippling the Japanese in naval battles at Hawaii. I came to think of the reimagined conflict as analagous to Philip K. Dick's brilliant novel, _The Man in the High Castle_, but in reverse. For Dick imagined what would have happened if the U.S. had not prevailed and had been occupied by the Axis powers, while Jefferson has convincingly worked out the best-case scenario in perfect hindsight for saving hundreds of thousands of allied soldiers and European lives, and preventing the occupation of eastern Europe by the Soviet Union, The latter is accomplished by getting allied troops into that territory first, and continuing to move eastward before negotiating with the Soviets from a position of overwhelming strength. (By avoiding war in the Pacific, the U.S. strength of men and machines in Europe would have certainly made this possible, the author indicates, and rather convincingly.) World War II buffs will greatly enjoy this, just as I did.

Interesting audible

A well-narrated audible which takes you back in time when the allies defeated the Nazis. If you are into your history, or if like me, want to understand more about it, this is a great audible to listen to. Highly recommended.

Like the 1930's on Radio

When people use to gather around the radio to hear the news is what it feels like to listen to this book. It is full of information and stories of WWI which I love. The only bad thing is that the book isn't long enough!

What if The Allies Had Defeated Germany Sooner?

I love history, so one afternoon while looking for an audiobook I selected the book without even reading the whole book description.

So imagine the slight confusion felt when I realized that this book started not with historical facts as we know them, but with a time machine and a traveler from 2022.

What a delightful surprise! Instead of a book of how history actually unfolded, this novella gives us an imaginary timeline for how history could have unfolded if key players were given a certain amount of foreknowledge, provided by an advisor who had time traveled from 2022.

As someone who loves to think about “what-ifs” in many different categories, this imaginative book was right up my alley. This book is so good that the first thing I did after finishing the book was to figure out how to get a copy of the author’s first book.

If you are a history lover, this book is for you! If you love thinking about what-ifs and how history could have turned out, this book is also for you! If you have ever dreamed of time travel or a career advising generals and presidents about military strategies, you’ll love the author’s imagination about these topics.

Teachers might want to incorporate this audibook into high school history class or even middle school. Great for homeschooling families (or any family that enjoys learning together) to listen to in the car or sitting around the livingroom. It would be a great conversation starter for comparing what happened in real history, and what happened in the author’s imaginative timeline. Also, great for taking the conversation deeper into how seemingly small actions and conversations and advice can lead to huge and monumentally changed outcomes. Although we don’t have foreknowledge from the future, it is still a timely challenge for each one of us to weigh our actions and words carefully and use our influence to make a difference at this time in history, with wisdom and kindness.

In book 3 of the series, we’lll find out if, in his alternative historical timeline, the author is able to successfully prevent the tragic…wait. Reviews can’t give away all the top-secret information and foreknowledge. Buy this book (and book 1) and find out for yourself! You’ll be glad you did.

Loved this book. I want the whole series

This was really fun. A time machine, a war story, and a love story. What else could you ask for? I was completely entertained. I highly recommend this book, I wish I had heard the 1st book, but I will. Fun series. 5 *'s

Great twist on history!

This was a short but very interesting read, I thought Frank Jefferson did a great job in reimagining the WWII story from a really cool angle, that of a time traveler Robert Evans, who is sent back in time from 2022 and is stuck in 1942 due to a problem with his time machine. The scenarios in the book would have certainly shortened the War and saved the lives of many. Very interesting to listen and reflect!

A history lesson with a twist!

If you like history or you just simply want to learn more about World War II, then you need to listen to this audiobook. The author does a great job presenting the facts and circumstances of the unfolding events that lead up to the fall of the Nazi Germany. I liked the whole audiobook itself, but I especially loved the time traveler idea of the author. Even if you aren’t a history geek this audiobook for sure will capture your full attention. The narration is nicely done and flows well with this topic. Highly recommended Audiobook!

A look into the past

This audiobook does a great job of taking the listener back to what it must have been like in World War II. Decades of historical events are brought up and put into the spotlight to be re-examined. You will hear the viewpoint of some harrowing stories and memories of the past. A lot of research and collection of first hand diaries must have been involved with the creation of this book. Very interesting material!
