Summary

Randall Haight has a secret: when he was a teenager, he and his friend killed a 14-year-old girl. Randall did his time and built a new life in the small Maine town of Pastor's Bay, but somebody has discovered the truth about Randall. He is being tormented by anonymous messages, haunting reminders of his past crime, and he wants private detective Charlie Parker to make it stop.

But another 14-year-old girl has gone missing, this time from Pastor's Bay, and the missing girl's family has its own secrets to protect. Now Parker must unravel a web of deceit involving the police, the FBI, a doomed mobster named Tommy Morris, and Randall Haight himself. Because Randall Haight is telling lies.

Excellent story and narration

Parker is centre stage in this excellent tale mixing the investigative work with elements of the supernatural.

Good story in popular series

The character is well established now and this story is good. It has less “supernatural” elements although still some. Three threads come together well at climax of story.

The reader is fine to listen to and does accents for different characters. His voicing of female characters is odd sounding and annoying which is why I have taken off a star.

Yet another triumph

John Connolly never fails to deliver when it comes to the Charlie Parker series. I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys a good thriller with the odd bit of relief in the forms of Louie and Angel.

Classic Connolly

Connolly spins a good tale and have to hand it to the narrator for the performance. Difference voices for each character brings them alive.

It’s not his best. But still a good story.

John Connolly ticks all the boxes

Brilliant as always, Dubliner John Connolly never fails : fantastic stories and great Irish humour. Jeff Harding does a fine job of narration throughout although I think his Angel and Louis voices are exactly right... My 2 favourite characters brought to life... Jaysus, I wish someone would hurry up and make a movie of these books, Connolly leaves Stephen King in the dust plotwise and characterwise so make the shagging movie please.

As usual, just excellent

As expected, another great Charlie Parker story dome Connolly. And again, Jeff Harding’s performance is awesome, he really is the voice of Parker - excellent casting. (Now I just wish The White Road could be recorded again using Jeff!)

Another great story from John Connolly

Second audible Charlie Parker I've listened to. Loved the colourful characters, the superb unfolding story and great twist at the end! (With a supernatural element mixed in) Love the voice of Jeff Harding who certainly brings each character and the story to life! Already purchased the next in the series, highly recommend.

Good listen but not much happens

If you already this far in the Charlie Parker series, it’s a fine little listen but not much happens. Still I like his style and the narrator is nice to listen to. Not the best of the novels
