Summary
The apex of the martial arts calls out. It challenges all to ascend.
Long Chao is the son of a hedge mage — a heretic cultivator. He doesn’t cultivate for power, but to satisfy his endless curiosity.
One fateful day, Xiao Huifen, a girl aiming to be the youngest Sky Realm cultivator in the Monolith continent’s history, crashes into his life. She’s from the world of top-ranked sects and strict cultivation methodologies. They share nothing in common except for the unquenchable desire to unlock heaven’s every mystery.
This is their journey.
However, the brightest glory casts the darkest shadow. Strength begets brutality. Long-life begets the foulest perversions. To those who dwell in the darkness, young cultivators such as them are nothing more than some of the finest resources. To use them as slaves. Refine them into pills.
When faced with such depravity, this unorthodox pair must do all they can to survive. Even if they do, how can they hope to remain unchanged?
This is a coming-of-age story that follows two paths to power. For one, it's long and arduous. Despite his unique insights, Long Chao must always strive to keep up with those around him. For the other, strength comes easy. Xiao Huifen isn't competing against her peers, but the vague legends of Divine cultivators.

Really good book! Consider only one narrator
The story is really good, I struggled a bit with the changing narration.
I loved the length of the book, a lot of bang for your buck.

Good fun, but very slow start
This is a good long story for the price of only one credit. However, the first quarter or the book is very slow with not much happening. The narration is only average as the two narrators only have limited ability to change tone and pace for different characters and moods, therefore the story is read out flat and in a monotone. These two negative factors, the very slow and uneventful start and the poor performance of the narration end up knocking the rating of this story from 5 stars to about 3.5 ish over all when compared to the 5 star story and performance of Will writes cradle series which is much superior to this one.

Real cultivation book
Apollos Thorne has done an amazing job creating an intricate and detailed world. Characters are well fleshed out and experiences (however horrific) are portrayed in vivid and realistic ways. AT does a great job discussing sensitive topics.
The story at times can get deep. Some parts can drag on, but, overall it is really good. The book is one of AT's more serious books and I'm glad I listened to it.
Finally, I can see what AT tried to do by having each narrator read the different perspectives of the MCs, however, it wasn't for me.

Great book not a fan of the narration
Great book definitely grab it! I've not had too many books with multiple narrators, but I really really didn't like this one. Male voice for male pov and female voice for female pov was great, but then male characters with a new femaleesk voice I found it jarring especially the MC's Dad and it really took away from the epic story for me. Yeah seriously not a fan 1 star for narration, I'm gonna pick up the books for this series and would suggest you do the same if you agree.
Side note, as epic as this is I don't think it was worth delaying Underworld.

Overall good
A little slow in places but an alright listen. Always nice to have multiple VAs for the male and female parts though the voice saying who the current chapter about is waaay too loud and sounds awful, bad enough that it was annoying even though its just one word every chapter.
