Summary

When a blood-soaked old man is spotted wandering through a sleepy fishing village in the far north of Scotland, his neighbours think he’s been in an accident.

That is, until he leads them to his home and to the mutilated remains of his late wife.

It is the first murder that the remote Highland village has ever seen. It will not be the last. Someone is targeting the elderly and vulnerable in their homes. Someone they know. Someone they trust.

Arriving to lead the manhunt, DCI Jack Logan finds a close-knit community closing ranks. Can Jack break down the wall of silence before more lives are lost? Or, in this twisted, sadistic killer, has Jack Logan finally met his match?

One for the Ages is the 16th book in the multimillion-selling DCI Jack Logan series from Scottish crime author JD Kirk.

Another blinder, JD!

But, as a Scot exiled in England I worry about Polis Scotland. It seems every rank above constable are inept. How on earth did they get promoted? Thank you for describing a birth that didn't include yells and screams; having produced four myself I can assure you that only happens in the media, but there is this thing called the umbilical cord which you seem to have forgotten about....

Best yet

All the characters are so well observed and true to their individual personalities and quirks that you feel part of their lives. You can't help wanting to know what happens with them next. Wonderful writing and narration.

Another Cracking Book

I love the DCI Jack Logan books - great stories, ace characters and a great balance of dark & light and cracking humour!
I regularly laugh out loud when listening to the characters banter - the humour, the wit, the funny references…. and read so well by Angus King too!
This book had me creased during some very entertaining moments, but no spoilers here, you’ll have to check it our yourself.
More books soon please!

Wonderful as ever

A few areas I felt needed more info but hopefully that’ll be picked up in the next book. A fantastic book overall and Angus King was sublime as always.

Can’t wait for more DCI Jack Logan and the gang!

Another entertaining yarn

If you love the series, you’ll love this book too.

The team is well established, the interplay between them all brilliantly written and exceptionally well voice by the great Angus King. If you close your eyes you can imagine that you are watching it in TV not listening to one person voicing every character. Truly good stuff.

As I say, if you love the series you are so immersed in the characters that the detective work hardly matters. For this book that is just as well. The murder happens on page one but the detective work only really gets going in chapter twenty something. In the meantime your are laughing along despite the grisly murder.

That’s not a criticism. I gave the book 5 stars, and it is worth every one of them.

If you haven’t read any Logan books before, start at book 1. Don’t worry, you be swept along so well, you’ll reach this book the week after!

Angus King is a brilliant narrator!

I thoroughly enjoy these stories and how they are brought to life by Angus King’s superb narration - frankly he’d make a shopping list sound interesting if he read it aloud😊
The best bit about this series is the character development. You become really invested in what happens to each member of the team and impatient to find out what happens next. The humour running through it makes it particularly entertaining.
These books are definitely worth a listen although, be warned, the language and some of the subject matter can be a bit ‘fruity’!😊
