About this listen

Detective Superintendent Roy Grace thinks he's found a serial killer, but not everything is as it seems in Not Dead Enough, by award winning crime author Peter James, read by actor Neil Pearson.

A beautiful socialite is dead. Roy Grace’s leading suspect, her husband, was sixty miles away when she died, but all other evidence points to him. Has someone stolen his identity or is he simply a very clever liar?

Grace’s investigation and his budding new relationship are derailed after a reported sighting of his wife, Sandy, who has been missing for nine years. Grace desperately tries to cast light on the truth in both cases as his emotional turmoil – and the body count – grows . . .

Although the Roy Grace novels can be listened to in any order, Not Dead Enough is the third thrilling title in the bestselling series. Enjoy more of the Brighton detective’s investigations with Dead Man's Footsteps and Dead Tomorrow.

Now a major ITV series, Grace, starring John Simm.

good copper

Nicely plotted and read. A good listen but uses a plot line that is pretty obvious from the start even with its extra twist. Very visual descriptions-you could see this guy going straight onto the small screen. All the usual character cliches but these are cops you get to like.

Definitely go for abridged version

Having rejected Book 1 as the narrator was very annoying, I was delighted to find Neil Pearson as the narrator of book 2 and 3.
However, I did find the books a bit short, not realising initially that they were 'abridged'.
I did then try to full version of book 3, about 15 hours long, thinking it would be better value for money. (Both available for 1 credit).
The long version was unbearable.
It started with a blurb, which basically gave the storyline away!!!
One part had a description of a golf course, which went on for what felt like 10 minutes.
I returned that book and got the abridged version after all.
I still feel that the abridged one moves a little quickly, but obviously doesn't miss out key parts of the story, and doesn't include a spoiler immediately before chapter 1.
I'm going for abridged version of book 4 now.

Great story, just wish I'd not had the spoiler at the start.

GRIPPING CRIME NOVEL

My long-lasting love of crime drama has encouraged a recent interest in crime fiction. I did a little research and found out that Peter James is one of the most popular/best crime writers around. I am working my way through the DS Roy Grace series and agree that Mr James knows how to write a gripping crime novel. Particularly enjoyed abridged version and Neil Pearson's excellent narration.

I love the unusual scenarios, the established and evolving relationships particularly the one between Grace and his colleague Branson.
