Summary

All Linda wants to do is sleep. She won’t look at her husband. She can’t stand her daughter. And she doesn’t want to have this baby. Having this baby means moving on, and she just wants to go back to before. Before their family was torn apart, before the blame was placed.

Alienated by their own guilt and struggling to cope, the Sadler family unravels. They grow up, grow apart, never talking about their terrible secret. That is until Linda’s daughter finds out she’s pregnant. Before she brings another Sadler into the world, Bea needs to know what happened 25 years ago. A devastating mistake, a lifetime of consequences.

The sensitive portrayal of a grieving family.

The story narrated in the third person by Esme , revealing the inner emotions of each character.
The story held my attention throughout. I would highly recommend this account of a family, touched by grief, and the way each character's lives are changed as a consequence of the tragedy.

**Heartbreaking**

**4.5 Stars**

This is a book that I had to put the brakes on. I was reading it and before I knew it, I was almost at the halfway point. I just wanted to pause and take it in. It not only touched my heart but it smashed it into pieces. The tragedy that comes with favouring one child and grief so raw it was palpable. I also like the way we did not find out everything at once and although we know some of the story the details came in letter format between two sisters.

We get to see how the family were each carrying a portion of blame. And we see the devastation of living life in the wake of a tragedy.

My heart was starting to recover then once the truth comes out we see how they seem to give themselves permission to try to move on.

This is my first read by Laura Pearson. I was not disappointed. I will definitely read others by her.

Hauntingly beautiful tale of family, love and loss.

I have just finished listening to Missing Pieces and I’m a puddle! This story broke me, then fixed me again. It’s a hauntingly beautiful book about how a family find their way through tragedy. The characters are captivating, the writing beautiful and I loved the narration.

Amazing beautiful read

This is by far one of the best books I’ve listened too. It’s beautiful written, and a very emotional read. I would recommend this book to everyone. The way it which is explores and follows the characters life and history is fantastic. 5 stars plus

Emotional

I did enjoy listening to the story, although it is a very emotional tale - the narrator wasn’t the best I’ve listened to, but not irritating enough to detract from the book! As an older sister myself, although I have younger brothers, the burden of having to be the one who is responsible from a very early age definitely resonated with me

A story so sympathetically told

I'm not sure how this title ended up in my library, but I'm so glad it did. A beautiful and heartbreaking story told so well. I'm sure my mind will wander to this family often in the coming days and hope all is well. When a fictional family sticks with me like that I know the book was a good one and that the narrator did a cracking job too.
