Summary
Members of the Midtown Book Club are found murdered.
It is just the beginning of a series of deaths that lead Walt and Ox into the twisted world of a serial killer. In the late 1960's, the Zodiac Killer claimed to have killed 37 people and was never caught - the perfect crime.
Oscar Roach, dreamed of being the next serial killer to commit the perfect crime. He left a calling card with each of his victims - a mystery novel, resting in their blood-soaked hands.
The media dubbed him "The Librarian". Walt and the Kansas City Police are baffled by the cunning of this vicious killer and fear that he has indeed committed the perfect crime. Or did he?
Walt and his wacky senior cohorts prove, once again, that life goes on in spite of the carnage around them.

I like audio books because book cubs can be deadly
I really enjoyed this book and think it is my favourite book in the series so far. I liked the way the killer thought he was out smarting the police even though they knew who he was. The story continues from were the last one ended and is told from two perceptions Walt and the Killer making it an interesting story and with the added fun of Ox (Walt's partner) wedding to lighten the story and add humour. I also liked that I had read or knew most of the books or authors, left by the killer to taunt the cops.
The joy and celebration of Christmas and a wedding is disrupted when a serial killer starts a killing spree. Each murder is well thought out, no motive for the deaths, no connections to the killer and the only clue left behind is a book at each crime scene. As the body count rises the killer gets bolder and after targeting soft targets like the homeless and prostitutes he turns his focus to policemen and in particular to the two men hunting him down and putting a spanner in the works of him getting away with the perfect murder.
I like the narrator and with his gruff voice he sounds just like I imagine Walt to be.

"What a waste of good pancakes."
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Oh, yes.
George Kuch returns again as the Kansas City elderly cop, Walt Williams, with tales of his family, friends and policing experiences. This time there is a serial killer on the loose, and partner, Ox, is planning to marry his Judy: the fearless big man becoming as nervous "as a long tailed cat in a roomful of rocking chairs". Gerry is is around to freely pepper the text with his comedic one liners and, for once, Walt doesn't have to go under cover - well, he has recently returned from the dead.
As always, the narration is perfect, capturing Walt's personality and humour. Mr.Kuch is the sixty something detective. And this book is great, too, returning to more light-hearted themes, despite multiple murders.
I can't recommend this series too highly. I loved it.
