About this listen
A rare, intimate account of a world-renowned Buddhist monk’s near-death experience and the life-changing wisdom he gained as a result.
Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche’s experience begins the night he has chosen to embark on a four-year wandering retreat, slipping past the monastery gates. Alone for the first time in his life, he sets out into the unknown. His initial motivation is to step away from his life of privilege and to explore the deepest, most hidden aspects of his being, but what he discovers throughout his retreat - about himself and about the world around us - comes to define his meditation practice and teaching.
Just three weeks into his retreat, Rinpoche becomes deathly ill, and his journey begins in earnest through this near-death experience. Moving, beautiful and suffused with local colour, In Love with the World is the story of two different kinds of death: that of the body and that of the ego, and how we can bridge these two experiences to live a better and more fulfilling life. Rinpoche’s skilful and intimate account of his search for the self is a demonstration of how we can transform our dread of dying into joyful living.

Great content, inappropriate narrator
Narrator sounds as though he’s a better suited for an action thriller. The writing is very good.

Extraordinary work with a lot of information.
Love the inspiration and content of this book. So much information on the teachings of Tibetan Buddhism put over in a very accessible way.
However, the narrator has a very 'heavy ' and nasal voice which would be great for a crime story reader but really a big let down for me in term of listening to the book.

A rare jewel within.
A great tale of a portion of a wondering retreat with a significant experience and testimony of the power of meditative practice.
More than just a story Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche, relates is travels to key concepts for Buddhist philosophy and practice, providing a educational run down of these as well as pairing the picture of a significant part of his wandering retreat.
Very well written and good audio narration.
A rare jewel is contained within the words and pages!

This isn't just a book but a rare treasure
I feel thankful that I picked this up. Full of wisdom and deep insight, Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche uses his own life story and his close shave with death to illustrate the meaning of life through understanding the process of death. The little deaths of everyday life that we all go through, and the intermediate states we find ourselves in throughout our lives, but are unaware of it, is incredibly transformative in a way that you begin to awaken and be fully present in every little thing you do.
Out of the awareness and understanding of death and dying comes the true meaning of life and living.
"Yet the true meaning of in-between has nothing to do with physical references but is about the anxiety of dislocation, of having left behind a mental zone of comfort, and not yet having arrived anywhere that restores that ease."
