Summary

Admiral John “Black Jack” Geary fears the greatest threat to humanity may be itself in this gripping continuation of the New York Times bestselling series.

As far from explored space as any human has ever been, Geary and the Alliance fleet are on their own, protecting a diplomatic mission in territory belonging to an alien species with still-unknown motives.

His already complex and dangerous mission is further imperiled by deadly challenges from other human factions seeking to harm or exploit the aliens. When another alien species whose technology is far more advanced than humanity’s arrives, the stakes are raised to the highest possible level.

Only the most serious danger comes from an unexpected source.

When presented with orders to carry out actions he believes not only are mistaken but would be contrary to the ideals of the Alliance, Geary has to finally decide whether he must invoke the power that his long-revered name holds, all the while knowing that this might endanger his entire fleet, tear apart the Alliance, and destroy everything he has fought for.

great follow up to the last book with earlier themes making a return, I was hoping Ensign Druck might of gotten a medal but I guess that might have to wait

A slow start, thrilling story.

I've been waiting for this book to come out for what feels like years. It didn't disappoint. Exciting story telling with thought provoking plots. As before the narration felt a little rushed compared to the earlier books. I recommend listening at 0.9x speed.

Another great

Having listen to nearly all of the books in the lost fleet series, this book had a different angle than the others but was still well written and performed. Some chapters were a little slow but overall the story was enjoyable.

I hope this is not the end.

Really good, wanting more...

Really good continuation of the story. Looking forward to how this story finishes and what challenges are next in store for the characters.

only slight negative, is that the recording seemed a bit fast at parts - even at 1.0 speed.

A bit short, left me wanting more

As always a great listen. However leaves a lot of unresolved questions and left me eagerly anticipating the next book.

Did feel it was half the story it should have been.

Capturing some of the old magic

As good as the best in the series(es) the narrative gets better and more complex and the core virtues return. Excellent.

Blackjack Strikes Again

Ive read and listened to all of the lostfleet books etc. The best one out of all of them has been Valiant form the lost fleet.
But im afaid its just been Knocked off the top by Implacable

This book takes into account just about all of the preciding books and adds to them without missing a step.

I enjoyed all of the book and was just abit sad to have it end. I look forward to the next one.

Both Jack Campbell and Christian Rummel help to make this one of the books i will probley re-listen to over and over again

Thanks to both

Can't wait for black Jack's next adventure

Since finding Jack Campbell I have binged his books in both audio and written form. Easy reads with enjoyable plotlines, the Sci fi is written in such a way you feel this technology could work or so alien that it's working is beyond human knowledge. The human interaction doesn't contain the blandness of other military themed titles and instead builds characters slowly with genuine human motives and character flaws that feel nataural and unforced which allows you to feel invested in even minor characters.
Enjoyed every minute and the new elements introduced. Looking forward to Blackjacks next chapter with Captain Desjani, Dauntless and first fleet.
Would love to know why the ships are named after major Historical Warships from the Royal Navy?
