About this listen
Then, in a single moment, his entire life is transformed when his master patron is killed in a flash fire and Rhenn discovers he is an imager - one of the few in the entire world of Terahnar who can visualize things and make them real.
Rhenn is forced to leave his family and join the Collegium of Imagisle. Because of their abilities (they can do accidental magic even while asleep), and because they are both feared and vulnerable, imagers must live separately from the rest of society.
In this new life, Rhenn discovers that all too many of the "truths" he knew were nothing of the sort. Every day brings a new threat to his life. He makes a powerful enemy while righting a wrong, and he begins to learn to do magic in secret.
Imager is the innovative and enchanting opening of an involving new fantasy story.

Very good
Great book by a great author. I like all L E Modesitt's books, so I was expecting good things from this new series. I wasn't disappointed.
I must admit that at the start, I wasn't too keen on the narrator's accent, but after a few chapters, I got used to it, and I now hope he narrates the rest of the series as well
I'm downloading the second book in the series now.
If you like Modesitt's Recluse series, you'll love this new series as well.

Very good for a freebie
Nothing spectacular or surprisingly new; the usual plot of coming of age, schooling and rising to hero in fantasy isle. The writing is ok, narration too. It is not read I would swallow in one go, but considering all series (12 books!) are included in membership, there is nothing to complain about. It is in my library and I will return to it when there is nothing better on the menu.

Very enjoyable listen
This is my first L E Modesto Jr story and it really works for me. He brilliantly leads us through Rhen’s education as a Imager, while at the same time introducing the world he lives in. The action has good buildup and is not excessive. I also loved the way romantic interest which also adds to the plot and the complexity of the family interactions.

Simply wonderful!
The whole story is just nicely paced and beatifuly written. The whole world, the thoughts that are there is simply a pure brain hug. It is very relaxing to listen to and makes one think a lot as well. Narration is very well done.

Most enjoyable
If you enjoy LE Modesitt's style of writing you'll love this book. This is such a fun mix of 'historical' fiction and a crime novel - almost making Renn (the main character) feel like a type of James Bond. I enjoyed all the twists and turns the book took. It made me nostalgic about the times when I was a student and fell in love. Definitely worth a listen.
I just found that the voice actor sometimes started reading in a bit of a monotone which made it hard to stay focused.

love this
This author always blends slice of life elements with much more in-depth characters and stories than many I've read. This book is yet another masterpiece
