Summary

Divorced and working as a security guard in Portland, 73-year-old Carl is attacked by an unknown creature before he is able to taser it to death. After being released from the hospital, he discovers by accident that he is unwittingly acquiring DNA samples from other people he touches.

He discovers a number of shocking facts about himself when a blue box appears in his right eye. Most importantly, he discovers that his health is nowhere near what he assumed it would be. Can he reverse the negative aspects of his health using these blue boxes, somehow? And can he reverse his poor financial situation after his wife took half his pension just before retirement?

Biomedical Self-Engineering is a LitRPG slice-of-life adventure following Carl as he discovers new ways of living life when he is nearing the end of his own. There are no explicit scenes, no harems, and only one swear word at the very end.

Awesome little Gem

Light on action but very interesting topic to explore. The way this old man interacts with the system and what he uses it for are pretty refreshing.

This book felt more realistic then my usual genres in our he reacts to all the changes that affect him.

A very enjoyable listen

A great story, something light and easy to listen to.

I liked the main character, what happens and the ending was unexpected.

The narrators did a fantastic job.

I am really glad I discovered this, I was unsure in the beginning but as the book progressed I was more engaging in the story and characters. It has minimal litrpg elements but what there is works really well.

Geat

Love the concept, and the performance is great just love JTJ's voice. As a note to the writer keep writing however possibly less detail on wether Carl went to the diner or not

Thanks

Unexpectedly amazing

With a quirky cover to downright amazing narration by soundbooth, everything fit together in the unique story.
Very likable MC with a lot growth to show I'm character and also shows the flaws and societal problems in todays time with being being too touchy also fun money making using new has.

What if..

Aliens used earth as an experiment to splice dna for some unknown reason? What if an old man named Carl was attacked by one of the experiments? That’s what seems to be happening in this story, with litrpg elements and set in modern day America. I found the story interesting enough to be looking forward to the next installment of this series. The audio performance of the Soundbooth theater voice actors is as always top notch. I recommend you check this one out.

Unexpected Delight

Can’t wait for book 2. Really enjoyed the mature hero Carl, his decision making and the honourable heart that centres his personality. Such a refreshing story combined with another great soundbooth theatre production.

Great job.
